I don’t know what possessed me to spend three hours on Sunday afternoon cleaning out our garage. All I wanted to do was hang up the holiday lights outside and straighten up a bit. Instead, hubby and I ended up going through things that have hidden in there for years.
We really went at it and just got rid of tons of junk… and I mean, junk!!! The garbage men will not be happy when they come by our house tomorrow morning. We are putting out various garbage cans and bags, old, broken furniture pieces, an old bicycle and other stuff. I’m hoping that the people who do drive-by’s on garbage days will come by and take some of it.(They usually collect scrap metal.) The things that were still in decent shape are in a pile on the side that I will bring to Goodwill.
It’s amazing how much stuff just accumulated over the years and got lost in the corners. Stuff we thought we needed but really just forgot about and never used again. Hubby also found things that he thought were lost or didn’t know he had!!! The thing about living in Florida is that houses just don’t have basements so everything ends up in the garage. Well, I guess you could say we did our Spring cleaning a little early. (or late, depending on your point of view!!!) 🙂
The best thing after our hours of labor… hubby will be able to park his car in the garage for the first time in about 7 years!!! That’s pretty cool and mildly exciting to both of us. Now, if we can get the kids to put away their toys and assorted wheeled objects where they belong, all would be perfect. We’ll see about that…
Okay, so before I had a chance to post this… those pesky, little interruptions, again… some things happened. First, we put all the
stuff junk to the curb and hubby drove the car into the garage (with all 3 kids on board, it was a big moment after all!!!) and then within minutes the scrap guy showed up. I think, we made his night…he took pretty much everything we put out, except for some minor things. He even thanked hubby when he saw him.
All in all, a good deal for everyone…we got rid of our stuff, scrap guy was happy to take it and the garbage guys won’t be upset in the morning! 🙂
One man’s junk is another man’s treasure!!! How true is that?
How many of you use their garages as storage spaces?
