Here are my answers:

1. I get my best ideas when I’m about to fall asleep or when I’m in the middle of a good cleaning session.

4. Watching a ceiling fan move, can be very relaxing.

It's time for Spring Break

March 13, 2012

Well, almost… Spring Break starts next week for my kids. It’s always been one of my favorite breaks of the year.

We usually don’t go anywhere special but just relax and enjoy this time off from the daily grind. We sleep in a little later, enjoy not having to do homework and just spend time together. There are some things we do each and every Spring Break, it’s become somewhat of a tradition.

Living in Florida the weather is just about perfect this time of year. As much as I love the summers off… it’s so hot that all you want to do is lounge in the pool or stay inside where it’s blissfully air-conditioned. During Spring Break it’s still cool enough that being outside, enjoying the sun and breeze, is a pleasure.

My girls enjoying some fishing time. They are quiet for a change. Don't want to scare those fish off.

One of the things that always seems to be on our to do list during this week is fishing. My kids love to go fishing… our neighborhood is dotted with lovely, well stocked lakes/ponds. Ever since the boy was about 4 years old this has become our thing. I can proudly say that I have caught a wide mouth bass or two and even some good-sized catfish. We “feed” the fish Nathan’s hotdogs and get lots of bites.

That first dip is always the best.

We also enjoy going to our club pool… it’s heated which makes it a great alternative to our own “frozen” backyard pool. I’m usually still too chicken to go in the water because it’s just not hot enough for my thinned down blood, yet. Some German I am!!! 🙂 But I enjoy sitting in one of the lounge chairs with a good book and keep an eye on the kids frolicking in the water. All 3 of mine seem to have been born water babies. They could go on and on and on…

Another activity that starts up again is our nightly bike ride through the neighborhood. Since it’s light out longer again we try to go for a family bike ride after dinner and look around to see if anything’s changed. I’ve always enjoyed this one and can’t wait for that first ride!!! Little one loves sitting on her co-pilot seat and feel the wind in her face and hair.

My beach babes.

I’m hoping we can also get some beach time in. As much as I love the beach we don’t go nearly often enough. But little one isn’t so little anymore so it might be more fun for all of us. Better make sure I have lots and lots of sunscreen… our fair German/Irish skin does not like too much sun exposure!

Can't believe we'll be sailing around on this.

This year there’s also a special treat for hubby and I at the end of the week. It’s my birthday that Friday so my mom is taking the kids for 2 nights, yes, 2 nights so hubs and I can get a little adult only time. I am super excited since we get to spend the day together by ourselves and enjoy a cruise on the American Victory. Remember that post? Click here if you need a refresher! Gosh, I can’t remember the last time we didn’t have at least one child over night. It’ll be so great. Thanks, mom!!! 🙂

I’m linking up with Rory at Time out for Mom for her Tuesday Coffee Chat.

You're the best

March 11, 2012

“Do you want to hold mommy’s hand?”, I ask her. Holding out my hand while the other grips the leash holding the dog. I have the 50 pound one. She holds the leash with the 5 pound dog at the end.

As her small, warm hand reaches for mine, she looks at me with a smile and says “You’re the best.”

My heart melts. As it always does when one of the kids says something so perfect, so out of the blue.

As we walk under the star filled sky, hand in hand, each holding a dog, my world rights itself even if just for that one small space of time.

This is what I remember when I want to yell and tear my hair out because she won’t listen to what I am telling her. When she tries to push mommy over the edge and to the end of her rope.

The monkey hugs. The butterfly kisses and sweet smiles. The I love yous. And the “you’re the bests.”

I know I’m not perfect or the best. But hearing that sweet voice say it, makes me believe that for her I am the best.

Versatility

March 3, 2012

Do you like seconds? I love them but when it comes to food I try not to have them too often. In this case, however, I very happily take seconds. Beth Ann from It’s Just Life has awarded me with The Versatile Blogger Award. It is my second time receiving this award and I’m thrilled that my fellow bloggers feel I deserve these.

Beth Ann, thank you so much for thinking of me and giving me this honor. You are just the sweetest and I’m so happy I “met” you through Hilary.

Here are the rules for receiving and giving this award.

1. In a post on your blog, nominate 5-15 fellow bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award.
2. In the same post, add the Versatile Blogger Award.
3. In the same post, thank the blogger who nominated you in a post with a link back to their blog.
4. In the same post, share 7 completely random facts about yourself.
5. In the same post, include this set of rules.
6. Inform each nominated blogger of their nomination by posting a comment on each of their blogs.
Here are 7 random facts about myself.
1. I try to exercise 4-5 times a week for at least 30 minutes. This week I power-walked each morning. Little One and I really enjoyed that.
2. My favorite form of exercise is swimming.
3. I love to snack on almonds.
4. I am a huge lover of gossip magazines.
5. My favorite color is blue… any blue… the sky, the ocean, a sapphire or aquamarine. I love all the shades.
6. I rarely leave the house without some mascara on my lashes and lip-gloss on my lips. (Less is more.)
7. I have a cup of coffee with my 86 year old neighbor every day.
Since I have already given out this award and others and I don’t want anyone to feel over-whelmed I am breaking the rules on this one a little. I’m not making a list of bloggers to hand this over to. If you read this consider yourself awarded. I love all my bloggy friends and feel they are all versatile… 🙂
Finished! If you guys have some time you really should head over to Beth Ann’s… She shows of her teapot collection for Teapot Tuesday’s each week. As a big tea drinker and owner of a few teapots myself I find her collection utterly fascinating and awesome!!!!! 🙂
