Loving, Hopeful, Optimistic

May 31, 2012

I couldn’t let the week go by without a quote.

And one of my quote creations.

I used one of my hibiscus photographs and edited it using picmonkey. If you haven’t tried it go there and check it out. Right now. I could spend hours playing around with it. So much fun!!!

Here it is, my quote and wisdom. Words to live by.

Follow Friday Four Fill in Fun #65 and… it's time for a break

May 31, 2012

Friday again, the first Friday of the Summer break for my big kiddos. They only had two half days this week (Tuesday and Wednesday) and now it’s time for summer fun. They have two weeks at home and then camp starts. Both of them are looking forward to it. In the mean time we are home relaxing… sleeping in late and enjoying the pool.

Now it’s time to fill in some blanks. Each week Hilary at Feeling Beachie lists four statements with blanks for us to fill in on our own blogs. It’s fun to see what everyone comes up with. So, join in the fun, won’t you?

Here are this week’s statements:

1.       I always ___when I___

2.       ___ is very hard for me to do

3.       Whenever I eat ________, I want to _____________.

4.       If I ruled the world, ____________ wouldn’t exist and everyone would _______.

My answers:

1. I always cry when I hear “Heal the World”. This song just does me in each and every time.

2. Pronouncing “th” or “s” properly if there are too many in one word or sentence is very hard for me to do. (The sound of “th” is non-existent in the German language. We had to learn a special way to pronounce it by holding our tongue and saying it.)

3. Whenever I eat bratwurst , I want to have a good German roll to go along with it.

4. If I ruled the world, child abuse wouldn’t exist and everyone would be able to grow up without fear and lots of love and laughter.

A rainy afternoon tea party

May 28, 2012

What better way to spend a rainy afternoon then with a tea party?

Finally, a quiet afternoon spent with my neighbor, walking buddy and friend and her lovely daughter who is also the best sitter and dog walker around.

After the last couple of crazy weeks it was nice to take a load off and enjoy some delicious Davidson’s Tea and Donsuemor Madeleine cookies. Share a few hours of easy conversation and enjoy the children’s laughter.

I’ve always been a tea drinker and it’s nice to know that someone else shares that quiet enjoyment of a cup of tea. My dining room actually got some usage for a change… usually it’s reserved for homework or art projects. But today I took the time to set it up nicely, lay out our choices of Madeleine cookies (Traditional, Lemon Zest, Dipped Madeleines and Chocolate) and Davidson’s Tea (Vanilla Cream Spice, Tulsi Hibiscus Flower and Bing Cherry with Almond) and then wait for our company.

As we sat and laughed and sipped at our tea, the cookies made a fast disappearing act. I don’t think there was a clear favorite among the children… they liked them all. My boy of course especially enjoyed the chocolate Madeleines. But then he is a chocoholic!!! My friend and I truly enjoyed the Lemon Zest Madeleines. They were not too sweet and the lemon flavor is not over-powering. As a whole, I enjoy the Madeleine cookies… they are light and buttery and moist. Just delish.

We were even joined by my little princess who like the other girls enjoyed more than one cup of the Tulsi Hibiscus Flower tea with a touch of honey or sugar. It’s such a smooth and lightly flavored tea that’s perfect for kids who aren’t tea drinkers. My boy had several cups of the Vanilla Cream Spice tea. He added a liberal amount of honey and enjoyed it immensely. I liked the tea,as well. It has a stronger, more intense flavor than the other two and could be enjoyed after dinner. (In lieu of dessert.) I also liked the subtle almond (a favorite snack of mine) flavor of the Bing Cherry with almond. As it was steeping, I couldn’t stop smelling the tea… just like an almond cookie.

One more thing. A big plus in my book, all the teas were herbal and caffeine free.

*Note: The tea and cookies were provided to me by the Abbi Agency but the content and opinions expressed in this post are my own.

I love to share photos and I love Instagram. I was one happy little blogger when Instagram became available on Android devices. I jumped, no leaped, on that particular social media bandwagon and have developed a new love affair/addiction with it. Because of this love affair I have decided to start my very own Sunday link up aptly called… Instagram Sundays!!!

I would love it if you would join me and share the treasures you captured with Instagram during the past week. I see a lot of fantastic, cute, funny and happy moments every day.

Share just one or many of your Instagrams and add a small description.

Just paste the badge into your post or sidebar and follow me… quick and simple.

My Instagram user name is of course, bocafrau!!! 🙂

I look forward to seeing your Instagrams on the big screen!!!

I’m a little late to my own party this week but it is still Sunday and the link is up for the whole week. I’ve been away from home travelling with the family. We had so much fun visiting with an old friend, finding new places to explore and I also attended my very first blog conference– SheCon–in Orlando.

Here are some of my favorite Instagrams from the past week:

I promise, next week I’ll be on time again. The kids only have 2 more half days left at school and things should settle down a bit again here. (I hope!!!)

Hope everyone has a wonderful week after this long weekend!!!

Follow Friday Four Fill in Fun #64

May 24, 2012

Another week over! This one was filled to overflowing with fun and precious moments. Monday, I had the pleasure of lunch and fun conversation with the super sweet, knowledgeable and just all around great Nicole of By Word of Mouth Musings. I’m so lucky to have met her.

Tuesday, Middle had a Family Heritage Day at her school and all parents, grand-parents and siblings were invited to enjoy some ethnic foods and to see what the children learned about their heritage throughout the school year. I loved that my girls dressed in traditional German garb. Little One wore the same Dirndl dress that I wore when I was her age. Thanks to my mom who saved it all these years!!!

Wednesday was a big day for the Boy. In the morning the school had a “Anchors Away” program to send the 5th graders off to Middle School. I can’t believe my first born will be in Middle School next school year. Time truly does fly. In the evening, it was time for his first school dance. He looked so handsome and grown up. I went as a chaperon which didn’t make him too happy but he had fun and I left him alone and stayed with the other moms there.

Thursday, I spent most of my day catching up with household chores and laundry. I also started packing for our unexpected weekend trip. I’m so excited. Saturday, I will be attending my first blog conference in Orlando. I’m going to SheCon 2012!!! While I am at the conference all day Saturday, hubby will be keeping the kids and himself busy and after we’ll be meeting one of my high school friends for dinner.

But today is Friday. Time to find out what Hilary has in store for us. Each week she lists four statements with blanks for us to fill in. It’s easy, fun and entertaining. Why don’t you join her and the rest of us who play along?

Here are this weeks statements:

1.       After a long day, I like to ___

2.       ___is my favorite cleaning product

3.       I can’t stand to watch ___

4.       I want to ___ when I ___.

My answers:

1. After a long day, I like to soak my troubles away in a hot bubble bath, Breaking Dawn soundtrack on low, candles burning and reading a good book. (Right now that would be “Mockingjay”, the third book of The Hunger Games Trilogy!)

2. Fabuloso (lavender) is my favorite cleaning product.

3. I can’t stand to watch news involving abused, missing or murdered children. My mother’s heart cries for them and makes me worry about my own.

4. I want to “dance with somebody…”when I hear 80’s music. We used to have this fabulous 80’s club here and I so enjoyed going there and hearing old school Madonna, Whitney Houston etc. Good times!!! 🙂

(I linked the to the You Tube video above!)… You’re welcome. 🙂

Baking Thursdays {Lemon Poppy Seed Muffins}

May 23, 2012
bocafrau

It’s time for another one of my dessert recipes. This one is one of hubby’s favorites and I paid special attention when I made these yummy muffins.

I love muffins because they are great as a quick breakfast or for a snack. One of my favorite ways to eat these is split in half, slightly toasted and some butter on top. Delish!

Ingredients:

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly brush a 12-cup muffin tin with butter and set aside.(I used cupcake paper cups.) Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt into a medium bowl and set aside.

In a standing mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, or with an electric hand-held mixer in a large bowl, cream the butter, zest, and 2/3 cup sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Remove the bowl from the mixer. Stir in the poppy seeds.

Fold the flour in 3 parts into the butter mixture, alternating with the milk in 2 parts, until just combined. Take care not to overmix the batter. Divide the batter evenly into the muffin tin and sprinkle the tops with sugar. Bake until golden brown, about 25 minutes.

Next time, I will share the recipe for Chocolate Chip Muffins. My boys favorite!

Clouds, Rain and Tears

May 22, 2012

Quote by Christopher Morley

I had a completely different post and quote in mind. But couldn’t find the right words to express what I wanted to convey.

During my search I came across this quote and found it so appropriate . I’m sitting in my blogging corner, some lights on in the middle of the afternoon to chase away the gloom from the afternoon thunderstorm.

Living in Florida for any amount of time you get used to the afternoon thunderstoms that occur almost daily during rain season/ summer.

I snapped this picture on my phone earlier today. The clouds hung heavy and black in the air. It was humid and you could feel the pressure building. Release was imminent. It came around 3 pm this afternoon.

Now, still a slight drizzle, the sky is lightening up again and the air is much cleaner and just a little cool.

So these heavy clouds let a little water. (Actually a lot.) And for now it feels better.

Sometimes, when our hearts and minds feel heavy it’s good to have a good cry and let it all out. I’ve been know to have a good cry now and then. Just ask the hubby! Usually, I feel much better after. Lighter somehow.

Linking up with Bianca at Bits of Bee.
