Picture Perfect Sunday #15

July 28, 2012

I love to share photos and I love Instagram. I was one happy little blogger when Instagram became available on Android devices. I jumped, no leaped, on that particular social media bandwagon and have developed a new love affair/addiction with it. Because of this love affair I have decided to start my very own Sunday link up aptly called… Instagram Sundays Picture Perfect Sundays!!! (I had been thinking about changing the name and format for a little while to include all types of photographs… Instagram, phone camera and any other type of camera. Thanks to my hubby we have a new name!!!)
I would love it if you would join me and share the treasures you captured with Instagram/phone camera/any other camera during the past week. I see a lot of fantastic, cute, funny and happy moments every day.

Share just one or many of your pictures and add a small description.

Just paste the badge into your post or sidebar and follow me… quick and simple.

You can find me on Facebook, Twitter and of course, Instagram!

Here are some of my fave Insta.grams from the past week:

I’ll start off with some food shots:

Almond cookies that were gone in a heart beat. Look for the recipe this coming Thursday.

They will definitely make an appearance on my Christmas platter.

Next up,

Orange cookies with an orange glaze that are making a quick disappearing act as well.

Love these.

Angel hair with a white wine clam sauce. Requested by me , cooked expertly by hubby.

Here is Little One “cooking” for me in her kitchen…

…and here she is helping me bake in my kitchen!!!  🙂

My boy, after eating a chocolate ice cream cone… looks like he enjoyed it.

Our after dinner walk ended at the beach.

Little One’s lashes after some fun in the pool… wish I had those.  See the few freckles she has? Fairy kisses!!!

This is what I’ll be doing with Middle tomorrow. She’s been begging for streaks… glad I found washable color!

Ah, glorious blue skies and palm trees. After a gloomy, rainy morning this was just perfect. I love Florida!

Life's a beach…

July 27, 2012

Yesterday, the family decided we wanted dinner on the water. One of our favorite places is the Old Key Lime House in Lake Worth, Florida. Traffic was so bad on the highway we decided to stick to local roads and ended up on Atlantic Ave. in Delray Beach. I love to go there… it’s great for a nice dinner out and a walk afterwards to look into shop windows and have an ice cream cone – which we did!

We ended up walking all the way down to the beach about a mile. Oh, the breeze was heavenly and with the sun down it was just glorious. The kids had fun running in and out of the water and digging in the sand. They didn’t want to leave, as usual…

My two big kids posing… Little One ran out of the shot at the last minute! The wall behind them has little spouts and water runs all over it. It looks really pretty and the picture doesn’t do it any justice.

Digging in the sand, fun for kids of any age… one of the only times all three of my kids played together without any arguments.

Middle wrote this in the sand, a great sentiment all of us share!!!

And here is my boy, without making a face or turning away… just his pretty baby blues and freckles. Love him.

Taking a break from all the craziness at home was nice, all of us together, relaxing and taking in the atmosphere.

The bathroom is tiled, waiting for the grout… we had another minor emergency tonight when Middle noticed water stains on the living room ceiling.

Let me tell you, I almost had a heart attack. But all is well, a small leak from the toilet valve (it was removed so they could tile the floor around it) that seeped into the ceiling over night.

July 27, 2012

It’s Friday morning. Hilary’s back with her Follow Friday Four Fill in Fun and that means time to fill in some blanks.

Each week, she plans on listing four statements with a blank for you to fill in on your own blogs. If you want to join the fun and come up with four fill in’s of your own, please email them to her at feelingbeachie@gmail.com. If she uses them, she will add you as co-host to the hop!

This week’s co-host is Pam from Trooppetrie (she came up with the last two statements).

Here are this weeks statements:

  1. I learned how to make _____ in ____
  2. I have always wanted to ____
  3. My purse always has a __________and _______________.
  4. One day when I am ____________I am  going to _______________________.

My answers:

1. I learned how to make potato salad in Germany from my mom.

2. I have always wanted to go to the Pacific Northwest. And one day I will.

3. My purse always has a box of crayons and paper for the kids to draw with at restaurants.

4. One day when I am about 40 I am going to get my belly-button re-pierced because I promised Middle I’d go with her when she gets her’s done!!! 🙂

Ready for guests, big and small…

July 26, 2012

If you’ve been here before you know that my master bath looks like this at the moment.

That’s why I’m happy that we have a half bath downstairs. I try to keep that bathroom in tip-top shape because it’s the one guests – big and small – use when they come over. With the kids home for the summer and their friends in and out of the house it’s not always easy to keep up with. It usually ends up looking something like this.

The girls tend to leave their brushes and hair accessories out. The little hand towels I have in a pretty container get used, put back and end up in a messy pile, and I’m forever laundering them. It doesn’t matter how much or how often I ask them to please, keep this one bathroom in good shape… I’m forever straightening it up and trying to keep it guest-ready.

After another one of my cleaning streaks, the bathroom looks like this.

I wiped, dusted, and organized.

1) The corner shelf got a little make-over. I removed the big, plastic dust-catcher plant and used a smaller one instead.

2) The toilet paper rolls went into a pretty container and I added some shells to the glass that holds the candle.

3) The counter around the sink got de-cluttered.

4) I put Kleenex hand towels on the towel rack. The box they come in fits perfectly when it’s turned upside down.

5) I snazzed up two towels with some white ribbon and put one on each side of the box on the towel rack.

Now, it looks less cluttered and more organized and is ready for whoever decides to stop by. I’m sure one or the other of the kids’ buddies will be here before long.

The Kleenex hand towels are so easy to use, even for the littlest hands and I’m hoping that the messiness will be kept to a minimum because all they have to do, after using one is toss it into the trash can. No more dirty towels tossed into a messy pile on the counter. And a lot less laundry for this mommy!!!

Patience…

July 24, 2012

I consider myself a fairly patient person.

I roll with the punches and don’t get too frustrated when things don’t go quite as planned.

I can wait without too much trouble for events in the future.

Except, right now my patience is being tested and I feel very impatient.

This shower/bathroom remodel seems to be taking a toll on me.

Maybe it’s because hubby and I have to share the kids bathroom… not a big deal at all, except that it’s not ours.

For me, the bathroom is a sanctuary.

I retreat there for an hour of quiet time at night, soaking in the tub to relax the day away.

That’s not happening right now because my bathtub is full of tools.

After the tile guys left today, I looked to see how far they progressed…

there’s tile and a border on the shower walls, not all the way up yet but it’s there.

There’s also, finally, some tile on the floor.

But it doesn’t seem enough.

Our bathroom isn’t that big…

Maybe, it bothers me that the guys come in the morning around 9,

leave for lunch by 11:30,

come back and finish for the day at 2-2:30.

I expected them to at least work til 5 every day.

That would give them another 3 hours to accomplish stuff.

I know, it’ll be so worth it in the end.

A new, repaired shower that’s not leaking into the laundry room.

And my sanctuary back.

Deep breath and on to another day!

My Instagram user name is of course, bocafrau!!! 🙂

I look forward to seeing your Instagrams on the big screen!!!

Here are some of my favorite moments from the past week, all captured with Instagram…

Last Sunday we spent the early evening fishing and Middle caught a big catfish. She was so happy that the fish were biting.

I’m thankful for the big banyan trees in our neighborhood. The shade they provide is much needed when we are out walking the dogs in the mid afternoon heat!

We’ve had a few rainy days this week as well. One afternoon it just poured incessantly.

I spilled a good portion of my good Rooibus the other night. The Rooibus that my aunt brought me from Germany. But I managed to safe some and have some more in the freezer.

Our cat Finn just loves sleeping on my laptop keyboard. I often forget to lock it so she has sent out an e-mail or Skype or two.

I made the boy some chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast this morning. He was very happy about it.

My very own little Lady Gaga. She got those glasses when she was an itty bitty baby and still loves to play with them. 🙂

Giddy up horsie. Having fun with big sister.

This is my favorite for the week. Swimming with great-grandma… one of those life-time memories.

Little One changed for our evening walk. She wanted to look pretty!

Time is not on my side…

July 20, 2012

Time to blog that is.

My fault for wasting most of my late afternoon/early evening on playing around with Blogger and setting up a blog there.

Just out of curiosity. I deleted it.

I’ll stick to WordPress, thank you very much.

I could have gotten this post ready instead of playing around.

But I didn’t…

And today I paid the price. I sit here, working on it now at 9:05 pm…

Because my shower looked like this in the morning, before the tile guys showed up.

They showed up earlier than we expected (that’s good, right?) and now my shower looks like this.

At the same time a guy from ATT showed up and we lost the Internet!!! 🙁 I.was.not.happy.

Then hubby’s grandma called… she couldn’t get anyone to come over to stay with her when a guy from Comcast was coming by to fix her TV. She’s almost 86… So, Susi to the rescue. I packed up the girls (Middle, her bestie and Little One) and we met her for lunch and then some pool fun at her house while the Comcast guy did his thing.

My bathroom still looks like this.

Yesterday, I played some more with my camera, been shooting mostly in manual and love the way this came out.

Our Macy checking out what’s going on outside from her comfy spot. Yes, that is her couch!!! 🙂

Here is the hubby with his new toy– a flight simulation game with proper joystick– on the big TV.

Even Little One is enthralled. And the other kids have taken their turn at the “wheel”.

Fun for everyone.

This is Middle mid jump at grandma’s this afternoon. Did I mention that they love the pool, any pool?

And Little One not to be outdone by big sister joined in.

Isn’t she just the cutest?

So, there you have it… my Essence of Now. Oh, I forgot to tell you. I’m linking up with Jessica at My time as Mom and Mama Track.

Not my usual Friday hop… Hilary took a break this week to mourn her kitty Alex’s passing.

I like this link up though and think I’ll be a regular here!!! If they’ll have me… 🙂

Share your… Recipe Thursdays {Banana Bread}

July 19, 2012

Due to some noise issues in our home today I am a little late sharing this week’s recipe.

We are having our shower redone and work started today.

I tell you, the banging, hammering, ripping gets old fast.

Little One is a bit sensitive to loud noises and does not like this one bit.

She started crying at one point and I had to take her to our neighbors house for a bit and then the pool to escape the noise.

But here I am, ready with my recipe of the week… Banana Bread.

I had a few old bananas laying around last week and was about to throw them out when on a whim I decided to find a recipe to use them up.

The one I found is quick, simple and just delicious.

Ingredients:

3 or 4 ripe bananas (I only used two and it was fine.)

1/3 cup melted butter

1 cup sugar (I reduced to 3/4 cup.)

1 egg, beaten

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 teaspoon baking soda

pinch of salt

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

about a 1/4 cup chopped almonds (my addition)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°.

Mash bananas in a bowl, mix in the melted butter with a wooden spoon.

Mix in the sugar, beaten egg and vanilla.

Sprinkle baking soda and salt on top of mixture, mix in.

Add the flour, mix well.

I also added a 1/4 cup chopped almonds. But that’s up to individual taste.

Pour into a buttered/greased 4×8 loaf pan.

Bake for one hour.

Cool on rack.

Remove from pan, slice and serve.

(It tastes really good still warm with a bit of buttery spread.)
