My Boy…

August 14, 2012

“Son, you outgrew my lap, but never my heart.” ~Unknown

It’s been a week of many new things,

more grown-up things.

The first locker at school,

learning how to open that lock.

A pierced ear,

because that seemed to be the thing to do.

Meetings for joining the golf team.

Trying on golf shoes,

in your mom’s shoe size.

A doctor’s check-up,

the news that you’ve grown three inches.

How did my baby, my first-born, my only son

grow into such a big boy?

Where does the time go?

Not a mischievous toddler anymore,

but a brainy middle schooler.

(Who got into some honors classes! Yes, this mommy is very proud. 🙂 )

No matter your size,

I’ll love you,

Picture Perfect Sundays #16

August 12, 2012

I’m back to my scheduled weekly Sunday post.

Last week, as some of you may have noticed but were kind enough not to mention I did not post my regular Picture Perfect Sundays.

I was too busy soaking in some girl time with my mom and my girls and enjoying the beautiful beaches of South West Florida.

I love the Gulf of Mexico. It’s a lot calmer than the Atlantic… easier to just float about and relax in the soft waves.

I love to share photos and I love Instagram. I was one happy little blogger when Instagram became available on Android devices. I jumped, no leaped, on that particular social media bandwagon and have developed a new love affair/addiction with it. Because of this love affair I have decided to start my very own Sunday link up called… Picture Perfect Sundays!!!
I would love it if you would join me and share the treasures you captured with Instagram/phone camera/any other camera during the past week. I see a lot of fantastic, cute, funny and happy moments every day.

Share just one or many of your pictures and add a small description.

Just paste the badge into your post or sidebar and follow me… quick and simple. You can find me on Facebook, Twitter and of course, Instagram!

I look forward to seeing your treasured moments!!!

I made up a collage of my fave Instagram moments of the last two weeks:

1. I found Kelle’s blog Enjoying the small Things  a few weeks ago. When I was done reading Nella’s birth story and had dried my last tear. I clicked on the link and ordered her book. As soon as it arrived I started reading and couldn’t put it down. It’s just amazing and wonderful and so full of love! If you haven’t heard of Kelle or her book, I urge you to check both out. It’ll change you… as it changed me.

2. This is the content of the package I received from the super sweet and lovely Beth Ann of It’s Just Life. She saw the picture I posted after I spilled my treasured loose leaf rooibus tea and the sweet soul that she is, put together a package of tea goodness from China. Can you believe it? I love my bloggy friends!!! Please, go say Hello to her and check out her comments for a cause. You won’t regret it.

3. The boy and Little One all smiles after a visit to the dentist. No cavities. 🙂

4. Middle with her “baby” our Yorkie Gracie after one of her bath’s.

5. Beautiful white ducks that live in the fountain in front of my mom’s store at the Miromar Outlets in Ft. Myers, Florida. Great mall.

6. A hair bow… made out of Middle’s hair!

7. Beach babes… ready to hit the sand.

8. Beach babes… pooped out and sleepy.

9. Matchy girls waiting for Nicolette and her daughter Miss M..

10. Love that I got to meet a blog friend in real life and hit it off with her. This was our second time meeting and we will see each other again in September at CFL Blog Con. So excited.

11. Our girls having a blast at Playtown Cafe.

12. My boy practicing opening the lock on his locker. He’s in Middle School… (wipes a tear)

13. My three lovelies, posing for me without any arguing or making faces. Just smiles and happy kids.

14. It may have had to do with this… a trip to Guitar Center. Here’s the hubby trying out a new base. He didn’t get it and instead a new electric guitar graces our wall. He did trade two of his old ones in.

15. My girls rocking the drums. They always make a beeline for the drum section.

16. Here they are again… in the middle of the guitar section. It’s daddy’s toy store but they love it too!!!

And those are some of my fave memories from the past two weeks.

I hope you will link up some of yours and check out my bloggy friends.

If you feel like sharing, please do! I’d appreciate you helping me spread the word.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week!!!

xo, Susi

Co-hosting the fill in fun

August 9, 2012

Another week almost over, another week closer to the start of school. Summer always flies by in the blink of an eye. Why is that? This week the boy and I went to buy his books, and get his locker. He needs a locker in school now, I can’t wrap my mind around the fact that he’s in middle school. How did that happen? We still have a few more things to take care off… like buying uniforms, new shoes and of course, school supplies. My mom got each of them some cool new back bags so that’s one more thing scratched off the list. Today, I’m taking the boy for his yearly check-up and physical. Can’t wait to find out how tall he is… he went from fitting just under my chin to hitting the middle of my nose in no time flat. Everyone keeps telling me he’s gotten so tall. I guess, I don’t realize it so much because I see him daily. But others definitely notice the change. And then, later I’ll be meeting with the lovely Nicolette of Working on a Project. I can’t wait to get my hands on her beautiful new baby girl. Both Middle and Little One are excited to go and spend time with her daughter Miss. M and see the baby.

But now, on to the important matters at hand. Hilary made me co-host for this weeks Follow Friday Four Fill in Fun. How exciting is that? I came up with the last two statements.

Each week, Hilary plans on listing four statements with a blank for us to fill in on our own blogs. If you want to join the fun and come up with four fill in’s of your own, please email them to her at If she uses them, she will add you as co-host to the hop!

She would LOVE it if you could please help her spread the word about this hop…. So, please tweet, FaceBook share, and add the linky to your post…

This week’s statements:

1) When I was little my mom  _____

2)___ is my favorite condiment

3)I don’t like to celebrate____ because____

4)My ____takes up more space  _____ and I can never__________

My answers:

1) When I was little my mom used to make me toast with butter and cinnamon sugar and fennel tea when I wasn’t feeling good.

2) Ketchup is my favorite condiment.

3) I don’t like to celebrate Valentine’s Day because we shouldn’t need one day a year to show someone we love them. It about the little every day things…

4) My dog, Macy takes up more space on the bed and I can never move at night.

Beach Lover

August 8, 2012

See that little one running?

That’s one of my beach babes…

the youngest.

I wish I could stop time,

maybe slow it down a bit.

Today, I went with the boy to buy his books.

He’s a middle schooler now.

Before we know it,

it’ll be early mornings,

drives to school

and afternoons spend doing homework.

I’m relishing these last few weeks of summer.

And I’m already counting the days until next year!!!

Great Expectations

August 6, 2012

“Nobody succeeds beyond his or her wildest expectations unless he or she begins with some wild expectations.”

– Ralph Charell

I love that quote and even though I like to keep my expectations low, maybe every once in a while I should expect more… and live on the wild side!!!

Thing is sometimes something happens that you never ever expected in a million years… it kinda was that way for me.

The lovely Greta of G*funk*ified invited me to her corner of the blogosphere and share my expectations, or lack there of, I should say!

So, if you are so inclined I’d love it if you’d visit me there and say “Hello.”

Some blanks to fill in…

August 2, 2012

Friday again. This one is pretty special. I have two very excited girls on my hand that are ready to see their Omi for the weekend. We are heading out for a girls’ weekend with my mom and leaving the boys home. Little One and I will return home on Sunday but Middle is staying for a few extra days to have her Omi all to herself!

Now, it’s time to fill in some blanks with Hilary.

Each week, Hilary of Feeling Beachie plans on listing four statements with a blank for us to fill in on your own blogs. If you want to join the fun and come up with four fill in’s of your own, please email them to her at If she uses them, she will add you as co-host to the hop! This week’s co-host is Jen from what would jen do (she came up with the last two statements)

She would LOVE it if you could please help her spread the word about this hop…. So, please tweet, FaceBook share, and add the linky to your post…

This week’s statements:

  1. I have no desire ___
  2. I love the smell of ___because____
  3. I wish that my ___________ would magically_________
  4. In one month I ____________

My answers:

1. I have no desire to send my children back to school at the end of the month. I like having them home and enjoying our summer… no schedules, early mornings, and cranky kids.

2. I love the smell of fresh cut grass because it’s so clean and well, fresh and also slightly sweet. It also brings back childhood memories watching my grandma cut the long grass in our meadow with a sickle.

3. I wish that my sister would live closer and not all the way across the Atlantic ocean in Germany. I miss her and my niece.

4. In one month I will be back to being an early riser and resume my wake up time of about 6:30 AM. UGH!!!

Share your Recipe Thursdays… {Almond Cookies}

August 2, 2012

I love cookies. All kinds.

I love to sit and sip on a cup of tea and if there’s a plate of cookies on the table so much the better.

It’s so easy to reach for that one delectable cookie and pop it into your mouth.

The kids love to sit, drink a glass of milk and have a cookie or two.

I found this recipe on the back of of a carton of Publix butter.

I love almonds and anything almond flavored. So, I thought, I’d give these a try… and was amazed by how fast they disappeared once they were done.

I’ve already had many requests for more!!!

3/4 cup butter, softened

1/2 cup of sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon almond extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

some extra sugar

2 tablespoons butter, melted

1 1/4 cups confectioners’sugar

1 tablespoon almond extract

1-2 tablespoon milk

chopped or sliced almonds

Preheat oven to 350°.

Beat butter and sugar in a large bowl, with an electric mixer on high speed until creamy.

Add the egg, almond extract and mix well.

Gradually add flour, mix well.

Roll dough into 1 inch balls, place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet and dip a flat-bottomed glass into sugar and flatten balls.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, until bottom of cookies are golden brown.

Cool completely.

Spread frosting on cool cookies and sprinkle with almonds.
