The same, yet different…

October 15, 2012

I’ve been sitting here for most of the morning trying to come up with something for today’s post. Instead, I’m staring at the computer, browsing on Facebook and Twitter and generally not being productive. Well, I did most of my morning chores and got a walk in.

Part of the problem is my head, it doesn’t feel quite attached or like it’s wrapped in a bubble… think I got a little too close to my girlies last week when they were sick. My throat hurts, my nose is runny and I feel like I’m in a fog. Yup, got another head cold it seems. Yay for me.

So, instead of wrecking my brain and letting my mind wander off in a million directions I’ll try to concentrate on this week’s prompt for Monday Listicles. Stasha let Christine pick today’s prompt.

10 ways I am different (or not) than my younger self:

1. I have short, very short hair now. My mom keeps this picture of me with my hair down past my shoulders and wavy thanks to a long ago perm!

2. I speak a different language at home now. I grew up in Germany, speaking German and now live in the US and speak mostly English in my daily life.

3. I don’t bite my nails anymore. At least, not too much and never down to the quick like I used to growing up.

4. I eat all kinds of exotic foods now. Growing up in heartland Germany we ate a very “boring” diet compared to all the exotic foods I have access to now.

5. I don’t listen to Techno anymore and haven’t in quite some time. I used to go to the dance clubs every weekend, Fridays and Saturdays sometimes and dance the night away.

6. I still love to read. I have always liked to read and still have a love for all kinds of books. I wish I had more time to enjoy reading though!

7. I’m an American citizen now. Growing up, until January this year, I was a German citizen.

8. I still love eating chocolate. Give me a bar of Milka milk chocolate and I’m a happy camper.

9. I still love drinking tea. But now it’s rooibus or chai instead of chamomile and peppermint!

10. I weigh less now, after giving birth to three children, then I did at my senior prom! And yes, I’m very happy about that.

You go girl! #10 is awesome! And chocolate should totally be it’s own food group.

Stacey, I agree, chocolate should be it’s on food group!!! 🙂

How awesome that you weigh less now! And, I’m in awe of anyone who lives in a new country and speaks a non-native language. You rock!

Thanks, Stacie. It was not so easy in the beginning but we made it work and are all thriving here. 🙂

I probably weigh less than when I got married. Maybe even the prom. Yay for us. And so glad to have you as an American. This will be the first election you can vote — I guess?

    • Reply Susi October 15, 2012 at 9:23 pm

Jamie, yes, it’s my first election that I’m able to vote in. I just got my voter registration card and cannot wait to cast my ballot! 🙂

#10 – shush it?! ok, we can’t be friends anymore! LOL

we should totally go to a club so that I can dance the night away like I used to, and maybe I could shed those last extra pounds! ha

    • Reply Susi October 15, 2012 at 10:57 pm

I’d totally go to a club with you to dance the night away… it’s been too long! 🙂

So long as I don’t have to go too!

You should show a picture of you with long hair sometime! I could inhale the scent of chai tea forever and be happy.

    • Reply Susi October 16, 2012 at 12:13 pm

Liz, me too, me too. I love the way it smells… just glorious. 🙂

  • Reply Kimberly October 16, 2012 at 10:54 am

I eat more exotic foods too. I think I grew up in a picky household. My husband introduced me to a whole new world of foods. Nom nom.

    • Reply Susi October 16, 2012 at 12:13 pm

Kimberly, same here… hubby is the one who coaxed me into eating a lot of the stuff I eat now. 🙂

“I weigh less now” You lucky, lucky b-. I would give anything to lose all that weight from after marriage and pregnancies. Oh alright, I wouldn’t, which is the problem right there, don’t pick on me now, I’m fatter and I have more insurance 🙂

    • Reply Susi October 16, 2012 at 12:12 pm

Ha ha ha… only you can get away with calling me a b- and making it sound funny. Maybe I should have left that off the list! 🙂

Wow, we have so many things in common! Immigrant, duo-language, chocolate lover, tea drinker, avid reader (when I make the time). Congrats on having a healthy weight, Susi!

    • Reply Susi October 16, 2012 at 10:26 pm

Thanks, again. Yes, we do have a lot in common, don’t we?

You sound like a very happy camper, indeed! Except for the cold. They just suck. Ellen

    • Reply Susi October 16, 2012 at 10:25 pm

Better a cold than appendicitis!!! Hope you are feeling better! 🙂

  • Reply The Meaning of Me October 16, 2012 at 9:55 pm

What a fun and interesting list. I really wish I knew how to speak another language.

    Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you so much. I hope so too. 🙂

Oh I sit like that in front of the computer a lot too.
I have tasted the best and most expensive chocolates in the world. But milka yogurt one is still my absolute favorite.

    • Reply Susi October 19, 2012 at 12:17 pm

Yes, yes, yes, Milka with yogurt is the best!!! 🙂
