Picture Perfect Weekly #24

October 13, 2012

I love to share photos and I love Instagram. I was one happy little blogger when Instagram became available on Android devices. I jumped, no leaped, on that particular social media bandwagon and have developed a new love affair/addiction with it. Because of this love affair I have decided to start my very own weekly link up called… Picture Perfect Weekly!!!
I would love it if you would join me and share the treasures you captured with Instagram/phone camera/any other camera during the past week. I see a lot of fantastic, cute, funny and happy moments every day.

Share just one or many of your pictures and add a small description.

Just paste the badge into your post or sidebar and follow me… quick and simple. You can find me on Facebook, Twitter and of course, Instagram!

I look forward to seeing your treasured moments!!!

This week a collage of some of the moments I captured with Instagram.

There’s the bottle of wine I found at Publix after having it at the Park Tavern restaurant in Delray Beach. It is so good. I’m just now discovering that I do enjoy the occasional glass of red wine.

There are the pictures of Little One, when she got into her Hello Kitty make up, when she posed for me and told me to take her picture and when she fell asleep in the stroller on one of my power walks.

There’s also my Middle mermaid. She took a pair of old leggings and turned them into a mermaid tail. She also spent two days on the couch this week sick with a cold and tummy ache.

There’s Finn our acrocat as my friend BethAnn dubbed her after seeing the pictures.

And there’s Macy, sitting pretty for me on one of our morning walks.

Instead of a sunset, there’s a sunrise for a change. We had a couple of beautiful morning drives to school.

And lastly, there are the lit candles, a tub full of hot water with bubbles, music on low and a good book. Well deserved after a day of marathon cleaning, I think.

I hope you are all enjoying a wonderful weekend.

Behold the power of social media and Friday fill ins…

October 11, 2012

Blogging has changed my outlook on a lot of things and brought many more interesting and yes, time consuming “hobbies” into my life. One of those things is my love for all things social media… Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, and by far my favorite Instagram! I have been using Facebook for quite some time and was happy and comfortable with it. I never gave Twitter much thought but when I started blogging some of the advice I got from others was to set up a profile. I did but didn’t expect much from it. Fast forward a year and I have over 800 followers – Thanks guys!!! – and use it daily. I have conversations with people all over the country and the world. It’s awesome. You know what else is awesome? Getting on Twitter to let off a little steam because you felt a company was not on the up and up. And the company in question seeing it because you tagged them.

It didn’t exactly happen to me but to the hubby. We had some issues with our cable company today and had to pay a bill even though we get our cable through our homeowners association… long story. So, I paid the bill to be done with it. An hour later hubs gets on the Twitter and “complains”. Bill from the company tweets back, asks what the problem is, they go back and forth and voila, at the end of it… we got our money refunded and an apology. How freaking cool is that? Behold the power of social media. I LOVE it. Is it any wonder? 🙂

Each week, Hilary plans on listing four statements with a blank for us to fill in on your own blogs. If you want to join the fun and come up with four fill in’s of your own, please email them to her at feelingbeachie@gmail.com. If she uses them, she will add you as co-host to the hop! This week’s co-host is Janice from Janice’s Footsteps – she came up with the last two statements

She would LOVE it if you could please help her spread the word about this hop…. So, please tweet, FaceBook share, and add the linky to your post…

This week’s statements:

1. Given the choice of ___ or ___ for ___ I’d pick ___
2. If you told me ____ I would never have believed you

My answers:

1. Given the choice of being inside or outside for my workouts I’d pick outside any day.

2. If you told me a year ago that I would be a blogger I would have never believed you.

3. The last time I cooked flounder it came out a little dry.

4. My favorite color is blue, any blue will do, but sky blue is by far my fave. (Interesting fact… we all have blue eyes in my family!)

Weekend Fun {Quotable Bits}

October 9, 2012

“The only reason why we ask other people how their weekend was is so we can tell them about our own weekend.”   ~ Chuck Palahniuk

So. How was your weekend?

Great.

Oh, wonderful. Well, let me tell you about mine! 🙂

We started our weekend with a trip to Oktoberfest in Oakland Park, Fl. Hubby found out that our favorite German restaurant was going to serve the food. So, off we went to get some Bratwurst on a bun and some Sauerkraut.

Middle’s bestie joined us. Here are the girls at the entrance of the “Biergarten” where we sat and ate some delicious food. And of course, hubby had to have a good German beer. What other beer is there? 😉

Don’t you just love this shot. Hubby in his Ballack jersey and Little One in my old dirndl dress.

All three of the girls with my hubby. It took a few tries to get all 4 of them to look at the camera but I finally got a good shot.

I love seeing my girls wear this special dress. I wore it when I was a little girl, Middle has worn it to a previous Oktoberfest when she was little and now Little One is wearing it too. She wore it for Middle’s Heritage Day at school last year. At first, she was super excited but as soon as it was time to go she started crying. Insert head scratch here. Turns out she didn’t want to look like Cinderella in her cleaning dress!!!! Okay, then. This time we didn’t have that issue and she wore it very happily.

Hubby again in his Ballack jersey. Micheal Ballack was the team captain for the German national soccer team (die Nationalmannschaft) and we found out this weekend that he had actually just retired.

After sitting in the Biergarten eating some yummy German food, listening to the band play some traditional German tunes and wandering around the vendor booths, we headed over to the rides. The highlight of the night for the girls.

Little One was thrilled with this alligator roller coaster and kept riding it over and over again. She’s a little speed demon, that one.

Middle and her friend meanwhile enjoyed the swing ride. They were able to spin the seat while it was flying through the air. Let’s just say I’m happy I wasn’t on it with them. My Bratwurst would probably have made an appearance again!

Now this giant monstrosity was a slide. The girls loved it. Me, not so much. By the time they reached the bottom they had so much speed that they usually twisted and tumbled over before coming to a stop. At one point I thought Middle hurt her neck  it was so bad. But all three girls were having the time of their lives.

And of course, we couldn’t miss out on the water guns!!! Money pits that they are. Little One won the first round with a little help from daddy and walked away with a cute little stuffed puppy.

Saying “Good Bye” after a fun few hours. By the time we got back home everyone was pooped and I had yet to bake a birthday cake!!!

Linking up with Bianca at Bits of Bee.

Compliment Quotes {Monday Listicles}

October 7, 2012

It’s Monday.

The beginning of another week.

And the only thing I like about Mondays is joining Stasha and making a list for her.

Today’s all about compliments.

I wasn’t sure which way to go with this one.

I don’t take compliments easily and never quite know what to say other than “Thank you.”

As I was browsing around the interwebs I got an idea.

Why not combine my love for lists and quotes and give you a list of 10 compliment quotes.

1) We are prepared for insults, but compliments leave us baffled. ~ Mason Cooley

2) Flattery…. gets its kicks by flirting with insult and ridicule. ~ Willis Goth Regier

3) Pay with compliments and you will always be wealthy. ~ Mike Dolan

4) I can live for two months on a good compliment.  ~Mark Twain

5) What flatterers say, try to make true.  ~German Proverb

6) There is no effect more disproportionate to its cause than the happiness bestowed by a small compliment.  ~Robert Brault

7) Do not offer a compliment and ask a favor at the same time. A compliment that is charged for is not valuable. ~ Mark Twain

8) Nothing makes people so worthy of compliments as receiving them. One is more delightful for being told one is delightful — just as one is more angry for being told one is angry. ~ Katherine F. Gerould

9) It is great to get praise from the lips of taciturnity.  ~John Addington Symonds

10) Modesty is the only sure bait when you angle for praise.  ~Lord Chesterfield

Picture Perfect Weekly #23 {Hello Kitty edition}

I look forward to seeing your treasured moments!!!

Today we had Little One’s birthday party and she requested a pink cake.

I baked last night at 9:30 pm after we got home from Oktoberfest.

I usually make a cupcake tower but she insisted on a layer cake.

So she got layers, one pink, one with sprinkles… and lots of pink cream cheese frosting!

Here I am, with my girls ready to head out to Sanrio Surprises for a Hello Kitty birthday party.

Hello Kitty heaven. We had to wait a few minutes for the party before us to leave and Little One

checked out every single thing in the store.

Birthday girl was the first one to get her make over. Here she’s getting her hair done

and her little friend is waiting for her nail polish to dry.

Caught her admiring herself in the mirror. Can you blame her?

Hair, make up and nails, all done…

And this, well, this I simply have no words for.

My baby is now a 4 year old.

Middle loved getting the make over just as much if not more than her little sister.

Showing off her cornrows and green hair extension.

When we came home it was time for cake, some snacks and playtime.

While we were playing outside the ice cream man drove by.

So, an ice cream break was had by all.

The girls didn’t want all the fun to end and so decided they were going to have a sleepover.

So much excitement.

Alas, as I’m typing this Little One is asleep in bed and her little friend is on the couch next to me

watching Backyardigans and waiting for  her mom to come get her.

Next time!

What have you been up to? Want to share?

And don’t forget to enter my blogaversay giveaway for a chance to win some Pumpkin Spice goodness.

Let's celebrate… One year blogaversary thank you giveaway!!!

October 6, 2012

One year ago today I hit publish on my first ever blog post. Go ahead, its a short one, take some time to read it! Done? Great.  I still love all things Pumpkin Spice and I want to share some of my favorite pumpkin spice flavored products with you. One lucky reader will be able to win this gift basket I made up.

It includes:

  • 18 pack of Pumpkin Spice Green Mountain Keurig K-cups
  • Fresh Market ground coffee Pumpkin Spice flavored
  • The Republic of Tea Pumpkin Spice red tea
  • Jelly Bean Fall Festival candy mix
  • 2 Pumpkin Spice scented votive candles
  • 1 seasonal kitchen towel
  • Tazo Organic chai tea (It’s not Pumpkin Spice but definitely one of my favorite teas right now.)
  • Pumpkin Spice cupcake recipe (not pictured)

I’m so excited to be doing a one year anniversary giveaway. It seems like yesterday that I was pouring over the WordPress for Dummies and Mom Blogging for Dummies books. Learning the ins and outs before I took the plunge. Those first few nights when I set up my blog were long ones. I remember having so much fun playing around with customizing the theme and I still enjoy doing that. Only now it’s a premium theme! 🙂

I learned so much this past year and it seems like a whole new world opened up to me. I’ve learned more about the ins and outs of web design and HTML than I ever thought I would. I found a new passion besides blogging — photography. You will always find me snapping pictures on my phone or my nifty new(ish) camera.

Social media is one of my good friends. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Google+ … I love it all and check in for a bit each day. My fave by far is Instagram. I love seeing what everyone is up to.

I wouldn’t be here without a few special people… My hubby for suggesting I start blogging, for supporting me, and letting me work away late at night on the couch next to him. Hilary for showing me the ropes and helping me get my blog out there and meeting my first few special bloggy friends. Leslie for opening up her corner of the blogosphere and letting me write my first guest post and for being a friend. BethAnn for being the sweetest, nicest person I have “met” in the blogosphere and for that awesome tea you sent me! The list goes on, I’ve met many wonderful people on and offline, but these 3 especially have been there since the beginning and they are still here… so Thanks to all of you!!! Luv ya.

I do have to say “Thanks.” to my kids for stopping them in their tracks so I can get just one more shot and for providing me with plenty of blog fodder. To my mom and dad for moving us half way across the world and letting me learn English as my second language… it is the most widely used language in blogging after all. 🙂

I could go on and on but I’ll stop here for now and continue my gushing another time.

I really just want to say “Thank You!!!” to each and every one of you who read my blog, who follow me on any of the social networks and who embraced me here in the interwebs.

Here’s to the next year!!!

I tried keeping the rafflecopter easy and simple. Good luck to all of you. I can’t wait to find out who the winner will be!

Exercise, Jeans, the Elderly and more Pumpkin Spice

October 5, 2012

I’m sitting here still sweating and hot and waiting for my body to cool down. But I’m not complaining… I’m proud of myself for getting a work out in every day this week. I walked 2 miles every morning except for today. This morning I biked for almost 5 miles. I’d also like to mention that each time I either push a 40 lb preschooler in the stroller or have her in the co-pilot on the bike… 🙂 I love to be out and about and get my exercise… I’m not one for the gym. Guess it’s a good thing I live in Florida!!! 😉

Okay, time now to join Hilary for her weekly hop!!!!

Each week, Hilary plans on listing four statements with a blank for us to fill in on your own blogs. If you want to join the fun and come up with four fill in’s of your own, please email them to her at feelingbeachie@gmail.com. If she uses them, she will add you as co-host to the hop! This week’s co-host is Lisa from Third Time is a Charm – she came up with the last two statements

Hilary would LOVE it if you could please help her spread the word about this hop…. So, please tweet, FaceBook share, and add the linky to your post…

This week’s statements:

1. I am very ___
2. I am most comfy ___
3. You will never believe what I saw on my way ___________.
4. My mornings don’t start until _________ happens.

My answers:

1. I am very hot and sweaty right now – still cooling down from my morning bike ride.

2. I am most comfy in a pair of jeans, a nice top and sneakers or flip flops.

3. You will never believe what I saw on my way to driving the kids to school everyday. The amount of elderly people here is astounding and some of them should not be driving anymore. Talk about slowing down traffic.

4. My mornings don’t start until that first cup of pumpkin spice coffee happens.

Recipe Thursdays { Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes}

October 4, 2012

As you may already know I love all things pumpkin spice and earlier this week I shared some pictures of these yummy pumpkin spice cupcakes I made. I am so happy with how these came out. Light and fluffy, just the right amount of flavor and the cinnamon cream cheese frosting is the perfect compliment.

So here as promised Kimberly, the recipe for the cupcakes that will definitely grace our Thanksgiving table this year!!!

 Ingredients: ( makes 12)

1 1/4 cup all purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

1/4 teaspoon ground allspice

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 cup butter, softened

1/2 cup white sugar

2 tablespoons and 2 teaspoons brown sugar

1 egg (room temperature)

1/4 cup and 2 tablespoons milk

1/2 cup pumpkin puree

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375° and grease (or line with paper cups) 12 muffin cups.

Sift together the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, clove, allspice, salt, baking powder and baking soda.

In another bowl, combine the butter, white sugar and brown sugar and beat with an electric mixer until fluffy. Add the egg, then stir in the milk and pumpkin puree.

Now mix together the flour mixture and wet ingredients.

Pour batter into muffin cups.

Bake for 22 – 25 minutes until golden and the tops spring back when lightly pressed.

Cool completely before frosting.

Cinnamon Cream Cheese frosting:

8 oz. cream cheese, softened

2 tablespoons butter, softened

1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Mix everything together with an electric mixer, add the confectioners’ sugar last and in batches.

Frost cupcakes when they are cool.

Enjoy!!!
