Picture Perfect Weekly #8 {Girls Weekend}

February 25, 2013

I love to share photos and I love Instagram. I was one happy little blogger when Instagram became available on Android devices. I jumped, no leaped, on that particular social media bandwagon and have developed a love affair/addiction with it. That has not changed with the beginning of the new year. 2013 here I come!

Won’t you please join me once a week by sharing your favorite pictures from your phone and Instagram?

It’s easy – share just one or many of your favorite shots from the week with a small description and link up your post.

Please, paste the badge into your post or sidebar.

You can find me on Facebook, Twitter and of course, Instagram!

I look forward to seeing your treasured moments!!!

It’s not so easy working on a post while the Oscars are on. I keep getting distracted. Can you blame a gal? Lots of eye candy… Don’t guys just look so fine in a tuxedo? (The Avengers on stage together, in tuxedos… where can I get more of that???) 🙂

************************************************************************************************************

It’s now Monday night and Once Upon a Time is on in the background. It’s late and I’m tuckered out. I had lots of catching up to do today after our girls weekend away. There were loads and loads of laundry to be done, groceries to be bought, kids to be picked up from school and homework to be supervised. Hubby cooked dinner, so I only had clean up and then bath time, and a few lullabies.

The girls and I went on a quick weekend getaway to spend some time with my mom. We love our girl time and I like having my mom’s home cooking which I indulged in way too much!!! After some fun at a local park in Ft. Myers, I went down memory lane during our drive to the European food market. I showed the girls the college I went to, the high school I graduated from, the middle school their aunt went to and the place that once was Cafe de Paris. The restaurant my parents bought and were it all began – our journey, my journey to becoming a US citizen.

100 Weeks Of Fill Ins – WOW!

February 21, 2013

Folks, this is Hilary’s 100th Follow Friday Four Fill in Fun link up! Can we get a “Yay!” I started doing this hop very soon after I started blogging and because of it, I have “met” many of you… So I’m very grateful to be a part of this great community!!! Congrats, Hilary! 🙂

Each week, Hilary plans on listing four statements with a blank for us to fill in on our own blogs. If you want to join the fun and come up with four fill in’s of your own, please email them to her at Hilary(at)feelingbeachie(dot)com. If she uses them, she will add you as co-host to the hop! This week’s co-host is Beth Ann from It’s Just Life – she came up with the last two statements! Also Beth Ann as been her for almost all of the 100 fill-ins!

Hilary would LOVE it if you could please help her spread the word about this hop…. So, please tweet, FaceBook share, and add the linky to your post…

This week’s statements:
1. I can’t believe____
2. I never liked the TV Show _____
3. If I were a ____________I would most definitely __________.
4. I ____________ when I ______________

My answers:

1. I can’t believe I have to wait another week for the Breaking Dawn Pt. 2 DVD to come out. I thought, the release date was February 16th for some reason.

2. I never liked the TV Show (insert most reality TV shows), one of the worst offenders in my book “Toddlers and Tiaras”. I cannot believe how some of these moms behave and what they make their children do. I’ve never been able to stomach more than five minutes. Ack…

3. If I were a professional photographer I would most definitely love to do senior (High School) photo shoots out and about at interesting locations.

4. I cannot type very well when I have a cut on one of my finger tips. Yes, I am experiencing this right now – I sliced my pinky on aluminum foil preparing breakfast this morning and it’s a bleeder which equals lots of band aids and throbbing in said finger. Ouch!!!

Friday is here…

February 15, 2013

2-15 chai latteMy Chai Latte with frothy milk on top is ready to go and so am I. Time to join Hilary at Feeling Beachie for her Friday hop and fill in some blanks. I always try to do this hop Thursday nights so it’s ready to go in the morning but as some of you who follow me on Instgram and Facebook may have seen. We had some company for dinner last night (hubby’s friend) and actually ate at the “fancy” table with the “fancy” china. We only use the formal dining room twice a year; more or less, for Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve dinner, the rest of the year it is my little office.

2-15 dining room tableIt was a great evening with great company. I hadn’t met hubby’s friend before and was fascinated by all of the stories he had to tell. I also found it funny that he loves the sound of his voice just as much as my darling husband does. Once a story gets going, it takes on a life of it’s own and just goes on and on… It rarely bothers me because I truly learn some amazing things, even if I don’t understand the half of it.

So, by the time the kids were in bed, the house cleaned up and hubby’s friend on his way home, I was too tired to sit in front of the computer.

But now, without further ado, please give it up for the Follow Friday Four Fill in Fun hop! It’s #99!!!

This week’s co-host is Wayne from Touristic – he came up with the last three statements!

Hilary would LOVE it if you could please help her spread the word about this hop…. So, please tweet, FaceBook share, and add the linky to your post…

This week’s statements:
1. Sometimes I _____ that is why______
2. All I ___________ for ______________ is ____________.
3. I _____________ therefore ____________.
4. McDonalds’ is _______________ and ______________.

My answers:

1. Sometimes I wish my sister lived closer and I could see my niece more that is why I’m always so grateful to be able to use Skype to see and talk to them.

2. All I ever wish for my children is that they are happy and healthy.

3. I am a bit of a neat freak therefore it is usually best that my family stays out of my way when it is time for me to clean.

4. Mc Donald’s is still very much a treat in our house and my children get excited when they can have a meal there because we get it so seldom.

Happy Hearts Day!!!

February 13, 2013

A few months ago, I won a cookie decorating book from the lovely Alison at Writing, Wishing. The book has so many cute cookie ideas, recipes for different types of cookies, clear instructions about how to decorate them and also how to make royal icing. Being the baker that I am, I couldn’t wait to try out a recipe.

(This is an affiliate link. If you like baking as much as I do and buy this book, this shop gets a few pennies to stay afloat!)
With Valentines Day right around the corner, I decided to bake heart shaped cookies for middle daughter’s class instead of buying store bought cards and candies. Easy, piecey, right? Bake a few dozen cookies, throw on some icing and bag them with a cute card attached.

Well, not so fast. This little endeavor took me 4 days… yes, you read that right, 4 days of baking, decorating, bagging, tying up pretty bows. Throw in photographing, designing and printing a card and you have one tired mommy today. Part of the reason it took me so long is the fact that I had to take a little time here and there to get the work done.

AshValentineThis is the card I designed. I loved how the photograph came out with the silhouette and the sunset and Middle making a heart shape with her hands.  Thanks to PicMonkey this is what I came up with. Pretty cute, right? I do so love PicMonkey.

bakingheartcookiesMiddle was good about helping me every step of the way, a little here and a little there. Enough for her to be proud of what we accomplished. I baked the vanilla cookies Sunday night and we iced them the next day.

frostingcookiesHere we are in the middle of icing all the cookies. It was the first time that I used royal icing. I had to adjust the recipe a bit as I couldn’t find meringue powder at any of the stores we went to. It came out very well and we were happy with the results.

valentinechocolateheartcookiesThe day after we did the icing, I baked the chocolate cookies in the morning. The original recipe called for some Nutella to be added but I had to leave it out since one of the kids in Middle’s class has a nut allergy. I cannot wait to try it out with the Nutella. The kids and I love, love, love it. Even though I did not add it, the cookies still came out great and have a scrumptious chocolaty taste.

frostedchocoheartcookiesThat evening we frosted and decorated the chocolate cookie hearts. And also tried a few here and there. 🙂

frostedvanillaheartcookiesAfter making sure the icing was dried all the way-(I waited until the next day) – I used writing tubes of colored frosting to add each child’s initials to the vanilla cookies, again making sure that it was dried all the way so the cookies were safe for stacking.

valentinesThen, this morning it was time to bag all the goodies up which Little One helped me with by breaking the little twisty ties apart so I could secure each bag. In the afternoon, I picked up the printed cards. Middle and I tied them on with a cute little ribbon. And finally, we are all finished! I do hope that the children and teachers will like their valentines. If I hear one bad remark, I might just have to whip out my broom stick and go for a ride! (Just kidding.) 🙂

I wish of all of you, yes, every one of you, a very Happy Hearts Day!!!

Since I took all of these photos with my phone I’m linking up with Greta of G*Funk*ified and Sarah of The Sunday Spill for ippp!!!

No early birds here {Tuesday Coffee Chat}

February 12, 2013

sunset

I always check the prompts for Leslie’s Tuesday Coffee Chat on her blog Time Out For Mom and tell myself I’m going to link up and hang out for some coffee. But I’ve been a bad bloggy friend and no linking up has occurred in a long time.

Today, I want to change that. How can I not with a prompt like “Early Bird or Night Owl” ?

I am definitely a night owl. My family can vouch for that. I like to stay up late and sleep in the next morning. It’s always a struggle for me to get out of bed at 6:30 in the morning and I have to make myself go to bed at 11 pm the latest on a school night. On the weekends or during school breaks I stay up way later than that. Luckily, my kids are and always have been good sleepers which means mommy gets to enjoy snuggling in bed later than sunrise!

As far as I know, I have always been a good sleeper… my mom has told me stories of when I was little. She would get up early in the morning to get ready for work, give me a bottle, change me and then put me in bed with my grandparents and I would end up sleeping a couple more hours. My grandparents were shift workers so they came home late at night/early morning a lot and had crazy sleeping schedules. If they needed a few extra hours of sleep, I was apparently nice enough to give it to them.

As a teenager my friends and I would stay out until 3 or 4 in the morning dancing the night away at our favorite techno club called “The Underground” and then sleep as long as we could the next day. Those were the days.

Now, dancing the night away has been replaced by blogging, editing photos, reading and watching TV… really, enjoying a few hours of quiet time after the kids have gone to bed. But regardless of what it is I do. I still prefer to do it late at night and then sleep late the next morning.

I get used to the early school schedule and do it without too much muss and fuss but come the summer break, my schedule gets turned around and my nights get longer. I should mentioned that sleeping in for me is anywhere around 9:30 AM not let’s say, noon. That ship sailed about 12 years ago when my son made me a mommy! 🙂

So yeah, I’m firmly in the night owl camp!!! I guess, that’s the reason why I always photograph sunsets and not sunrises. (But that’s on my photography bucket list.)

How about you? Are you an early bird or a night owl? Why don’t you join Leslie and let us know! Or leave a comment!

Here’s my week in Instagram pics. I didn’t take too many photos during the week. But made up for it on Thursday and Friday. As some of you may know I got to spend time with Hilary from Feeling Beachie and her husband Marc who were here visiting from New York and soaking up some much needed sun. We had a wonderful time together and I enjoyed every last minute. Middle is already planning her next trip to New York… 🙂
