No early birds here {Tuesday Coffee Chat}

February 12, 2013

I always check the prompts for Leslie’s Tuesday Coffee Chat on her blog Time Out For Mom and tell myself I’m going to link up and hang out for some coffee. But I’ve been a bad bloggy friend and no linking up has occurred in a long time.

Today, I want to change that. How can I not with a prompt like “Early Bird or Night Owl” ?

I am definitely a night owl. My family can vouch for that. I like to stay up late and sleep in the next morning. It’s always a struggle for me to get out of bed at 6:30 in the morning and I have to make myself go to bed at 11 pm the latest on a school night. On the weekends or during school breaks I stay up way later than that. Luckily, my kids are and always have been good sleepers which means mommy gets to enjoy snuggling in bed later than sunrise!

As far as I know, I have always been a good sleeper… my mom has told me stories of when I was little. She would get up early in the morning to get ready for work, give me a bottle, change me and then put me in bed with my grandparents and I would end up sleeping a couple more hours. My grandparents were shift workers so they came home late at night/early morning a lot and had crazy sleeping schedules. If they needed a few extra hours of sleep, I was apparently nice enough to give it to them.

As a teenager my friends and I would stay out until 3 or 4 in the morning dancing the night away at our favorite techno club called “The Underground” and then sleep as long as we could the next day. Those were the days.

Now, dancing the night away has been replaced by blogging, editing photos, reading and watching TV… really, enjoying a few hours of quiet time after the kids have gone to bed. But regardless of what it is I do. I still prefer to do it late at night and then sleep late the next morning.

I get used to the early school schedule and do it without too much muss and fuss but come the summer break, my schedule gets turned around and my nights get longer. I should mentioned that sleeping in for me is anywhere around 9:30 AM not let’s say, noon. That ship sailed about 12 years ago when my son made me a mommy! 🙂

So yeah, I’m firmly in the night owl camp!!! I guess, that’s the reason why I always photograph sunsets and not sunrises. (But that’s on my photography bucket list.)

How about you? Are you an early bird or a night owl? Why don’t you join Leslie and let us know! Or leave a comment!

    We would have the most awesome slumber party!! HA
    Especially since I have not seen all the Twilight movies! 🙂

    And I too can remember dancing away the night into the wee small hours. Bars here stayed open until 3 am. Then we’d normally go to a 24 hour restaurant. I remember this one that actually had peanut butter and banana sandwiches on the menu — so good! Or we’d go to this diner that had the greasiest, but oh so good, breakfast special. Ahh….those were the days.
    Hubby has been letting me sleep in pretty late the last couple of weeks because I keep getting colds. or maybe it’s the same cold.. I don’t know. But I confess, I am definitely in a bit of a lazy cycle right now. That normally changes once Spring is in the air though.
    Thanks for (finally) linking up! LOL
