Time to say goodbye and some fill ins…

December 6, 2012

Time to join Hilary for some fill in fun.
It’s been a busy week here and I’m pooped after bringing my sister and her family to the airport in Miami.
They are heading back to Germany after their vacation here.
I hate driving down there – it exhausts me every time.
I just barely made it back in time to get the kids from school.
But I made it.
So, without further ado…

Empire State of Mind and a few fill ins…

November 2, 2012

This week cannot be over fast enough. It’s not one of my favorite weeks by far. After getting so very lucky when Sandy glanced by us with very minor damage, we started breathing a sigh of relief. Put it out of our minds and moved on. Just like we do a few times during hurricane season each year when something is brewing close to us. I kept my eyes on the storm track to see where it was heading and when it would fizzle out. Same as always. Only this one had other ideas. We all know what kind of ideas…

It’s been horrifying seeing the images come in and watch the news of all the devastation all along the Northeast Coast. I think, hubby was in utter shock as he watched his hometown get destroyed and parts of it burn.

I can’t seem to shake the sadness in my heart. It aches for all the people that were affected, the ones who are without power, shivering in the cold, without phones, internet… any modern conveniences. Never before have I been so aware of how we rely on all these conveniences… sitting, worrying, biting my nails, hoping for some sign, a message from people close to us.

Many of you have contacted me to find out if I heard from Hilary. I had been in touch with her just before the storm and then… nothing for days. I finally had the presence of mind to send a message to her mom. Such relief when I heard they were okay. (As okay as they can be in this situation.)

Tonight, I got a very short e-mail from Hilary… the subject line: ALIVE!!! So thankful for that!!!

I almost didn’t do the hop today. I just haven’t felt like blogging… but somehow I think, even if Hilary can’t answer our comments right now she’d be happy to know that we are all playing along and keeping it going!!!

Now, before I get to the hop, I wanted to share this video. I heard this song on the radio in the morning on the way home after dropping the kids at school and it gave me shivers and made me tear up… Who am I kidding, I was bawling.

This week’s statements:
1. Growing up _____
2. Wouldn’t ____ be wonderful?
3. If I hadn’t _____, then I never would have _____.
4. When I _____, I like to _____.

My answers:

1. Growing up my friends and I spent every minute we could outside, building forts, hiking through the woods, and being carefree.

2. Wouldn’t not having to deal with hurricanes be wonderful?

3. If I hadn’t seen that ad in the paper for the CSR position, then I never would have met my husband.

4. When I soak in the bathtub and relax, I like to have music on low and read a good book by candle light. (My idea of heaven!)

An unplanned three-day weekend… and some fill in fun!

October 25, 2012

Earlier today, I was out walking the dogs and as I was meandering along, letting them stop here and there to sniff in the grass, watching the water gently lap at the grassy shore, and the grey clouds drift in the sky — I realized how quiet and deserted it seemed.

An approaching hurricane does that. The birds were quiet and instead of chirping in the sunshine, they hid and found a safe spot somewhere, away from the wind and rain. The tennis courts were deserted and no matches were being played this morning. The streets were devoid of cars… It just seemed eerie. The scratchy call of the crows high up on the wires of the power lines made it even more so.

From the time I hear we are under a tropical storm watch and then warning, the waiting begins.

First, to find out if and when the schools close. Today, the call came at 9:30 am… an early pick up today, no school tomorrow. The kids are excited. Why not, an unexpected three day weekend for them?

Then, more waiting and watching. Where exactly is the storm going? Will it change it’s prospective path? How strong is it? How big is it? How far do the feeder bands extend from the center, the eye, of the storm?

I constantly check the forecast, keep abreast of the latest news and try to stay calm.

I am calm. On the outside. Inside. A different story.

I am not scared, maybe a bit worried. It’s more like being on hold. I always feel this way… like my life is on hold and won’t continue until after the storm passes and things return to normal. Whatever that is!!!

Thank goodness for Hilary and her hop. Joining her for her weekly link-up is just what I need to take my mind of other things. Namely, Hurricane Sandy.

Each week, Hilary plans on listing four statements with a blank for us to fill in on our own blogs. If you want to join the fun and come up with four fill in’s of your own, please email them to her at feelingbeachie@gmail.com. If she uses them, she will add you as co-host to the hop! This week’s co-host is Irene from Me, Myself and Irene (she came up with the last two statements)

Hilary would LOVE it if you could please help her spread the word about this hop…. So, please tweet, FaceBook share, and add the linky to your post…

This week’s statements:
1. ___ is my favorite feature
2. Thinking about ___ makes me ___
3. It’s been a long time since______
4. I just don’t understand_____________

My answers:

1. My eyes are my favorite feature.

2. Thinking about Thanksgiving makes me very excited. My sister and her family will be here and I can’t wait to enjoy the holiday with her and the rest of the gang.

3. It’s been a long time since I had a spa pedicure. I believe it was around the time I was pregnant with my youngest and that was over 4 years ago!!!

4. I just don’t understand why there is always such a long wait at the doctor even when you have an appointment. What’s the point?

Five Questions… and Five Answers

October 19, 2012

I’ve decided to try something new for a change and instead of filling in Hilary’s blank statements, I will answer Mama M.’s  5 questions.

So, here goes!!!

1. Where do you hide junk when people come over?

If I don’t have enough time to do a thorough cleaning before people come over, I’ll do a quick run through (driving the family crazy in the process) and put things away in closets, cabinets and the multitude of bins we have in the family room… great for putting all the kids’ toys away so it doesn’t look so cluttered.

2. Do political ads help you decide who you are going to vote for?

I’ve pretty much decided whom I’m going to vote for so the ads don’t sway me one way or another. I’m very excited to be able to vote for the first time since coming to this country.

3. What’s your favorite holiday party to host?

We used to have New Year’s parties a few years in a row and it was always a lot of fun getting ready for those and then ring in the new year with everyone watching the ball drop in Times Square!

4. You go to an island with your husband and can only take one personal item. What is it?

Wow. That’s a tough one. Probably my toothbrush… I hate it when my teeth feel dirty.

5. If you found out your spouse was a Dexter style serial killer (only kills people to save others) would you rat?

Hmmm. I have never watched Dexter so I can’t really compare it would depend I guess.

Well, this was fun. Something new and different!!! I’m always up for a little change. 🙂

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Picture Perfect Weekly #20 {My Weekend}

September 16, 2012

I love to share photos and I love Instagram. I was one happy
little blogger when Instagram became available on Android
devices. I jumped, no leaped, on that particular social media
bandwagon and have developed a new love affair/addiction
with it. Because of this love affair I have decided to start my
very own weekly link up called… Picture Perfect Weekly!!!
I would love it if you would join me and share the treasures
you captured with Instagram/phone camera/any other
camera during the past week. I see a lot of fantastic, cute,
funny and happy moments every day.

Share just one or many of your pictures and add a small
description.

Just paste the badge into your post or sidebar and follow
me… quick and simple. You can find me on Facebook,
Twitter and of course, Instagram!

I look forward to seeing your treasured moments!!!

Friday afternoon found me gazing at this view from the passenger seat of hubby’s car. After my mom arrived at our house and took over the reigns for the weekend, we headed north on Florida’s Turnpike to Orlando. For a weekend filled with fun, good food, great friends and useful information. CFLBlogCon was our reason for a child-free weekend but we combined business with pleasure so to speak!!! 🙂

See this empty car seat? It was a bit strange to be on the road heading to Orlando of all places without nary a child in sight. The ride was quiet, filled with conversation and not a “Mommy he’s poking me!” complaint anywhere to be heard. There was some cussing on hubby’s part as the other drivers on the road where not inclined to follow road rules!!! 😉

After a record 2 1/2 hours we made it and were able to leave the highway behind and head into down town Orlando. I always love seeing these signs… and getting of the highway to see more scenery around me again.

We have been staying at Embassy Suite hotels over the past year or so. It just works out great when travelling with children. Hubby signed up for a rewards program and every time we stay at any of the Hilton Honors hotels we get points. Which can lead to a pleasant surprise like this: Hubby asked for a room on a top floor preferably with a lake view. The hotel sure delivered… we had a room, excuse me, suite on THE top floor, with balcony overlooking Lake Eola in down town Orlando and all without paying a dime extra for the upgrades. Sweet, huh? 🙂

This was the view. Very nice to wake up to in the morning… It is so pretty, with the fountain and the paddle boats, which look like swans, out on the lake.

After checking in and freshening up a bit, we headed out again to meet my friend for dinner. We went to The Ravenous Pig in Winterpark, Florida. Hubby had to make reservations weeks in advance and the place was hopping with people still coming in for dinner when we were getting ready to leave at close to 10 pm at night. The food was phenomenal and we all ate way too much. (More to come on our experience there!)

This rib eye steak dinner for two was our main course. Before it was served a waiter came out and showed us the steak cooked to see if we were happy with it and then he took it back to the kitchen to cut it into more manageable pieces.

Saturday night after a busy day at the conference hubby and I were meeting our friend again to try an Italian restaurant in Winterpark. We were early so we had a cheesy snack and a glass of red wine at the Wine Room. Oh my, what a fantastic place. Another one I will go into more detail at a later time. Let’s just say I’m very happy that I’m starting to enjoy the occasional glass of red wine!

And today, I gazed out the window again as we were heading South on the Turnpike towards home and our three angels after a busy weekend, full of laughter and amazing memories. We even saw a deer run right along side the highway. I was a little worried about the poor thing as there was no fence between the fast moving cars and the grass strip it was running on.

So now it’s your turn to show off your favorite shots of the week! Grab the button on the sidebar and go! 😉

Fill in fun and a weekend getaway…

September 13, 2012

Another week almost over.

So glad this one is almost behind us.

If I wasn’t so tired I would let out my little rant.

I will write up a little post about my week… later.

It wasn’t all bad.

And this weekend should be interesting and fun.

Hubby and I are heading to Orlando for the Central Florida Blog Conference this weekend — sans kids.

My mom is coming over to watch them for us.

Thank you, mommy. We really appreciate it… I know you’ve been working like crazy.

I’m excited to meet some new bloggy friends and to see my friend Nicolette again.

Every time we’ve seen each other we’ve really hit it off and can just sit and talk for hours.

I’m also looking forward to learning new things and to broaden my horizons.

And lastly, there looks to be some awesome food to be had while in Orlando.

Hubby and I are meeting with an old friend for dinner both Friday and Saturday…

I’ll be sure to share my experiences with you guys when I get back!!!

A busy week and fill in fun

August 23, 2012

It seems this week I went from one appointment to the next.

Middle had an eye check up, the boy started golf practice and Middle dance camp.

I went driving back and forth to school, the golf course and home.

Sometimes all in one day.

Today was a doozy…

Middle had to be at school for dance camp, then we had some time (the boy got a new pair of shoes and so did this mommy) and the boy had to go to practice, from there we went back to school to pick her up, drove home, grabbed a bite to eat.

Then the boy and I headed out again back to school for middle school orientation and finally got home at 8pm.

On top of it all my poor hubby has been on the couch sick for two days.

It’s been fun.

Tomorrow promises to be another busy day with open house for both Middle and the boy, at separate times.

After this week I kinda look forward to the routine of the school year.

Seems we’ll be spared major troubles from the hurricane that’s heading in our direction and should only have to deal with some rain.

Now, time to fill in some blanks.

Each week, Hilary plans on listing four statements with a blank for us to fill in on your own blogs. If you want to join the fun and come up with four fill in’s of your own, please email them to her at feelingbeachie@gmail.com. If she uses them, she will add you as co-host to the hop! This week’s co-host is Pam from Trooppetrie she came up with the last two statements….

Hilary would LOVE it if you could please help her spread the word about this hop…. So, please tweet, FaceBook share, and add the linky to your post…

Here are this week’s statements:

  1. I hate ____
  2. I have never been to ____
  3. The hobby I love the most is_____________ and one day I will ____________________.
  4. My favorite store to shop at is______________because_______________________.
My answers:
1. I hate olives. Well, most of them… there is one kind I eat in a salad but other than that I just don’t like the taste of them.
2. I have never been to the Pacific Northwest. One day I want to go and see it all… Seattle, Vancouver and maybe even Anchorage… I want to see the Northern Lights.
3. The hobby I love the most (right now) is photography and one day I will be a professional photographer.
4. My favorite store to shop at is Target because of all the variety of things I can get… clothes for me and the kids, groceries, books, toys and so on. Just love Tarjay!!! 🙂
Wishing all of you a wonderful weekend.
