Time for some fill in fun. The day is getting away from me but not without first stopping by Hilary’s to play along. I’m very excited to say that I’ll be seeing Hilary in person this weekend!!! Middle and I cannot wait to sit and chat with her. I think, Middle is more excited to see her than I am. She hasn’t stopped talking about it for days… someone has got a huge girl crush on this blogger!!! 🙂
Each week, Hilary plans on listing four statements with a blank for us to fill in on our own blogs. If you want to join the fun and come up with four fill in’s of your own, please email them to her at Hilary(at)feelingbeachie(dot)com. If she uses them, she will add you as co-host to the hop! This week’s co-host is Amy from Life According to John – she came up with the last two statements!
Hilary would LOVE it if you could please help me spread the word about this hop…. So, please tweet, FaceBook share, and add the linky to your post…
This week’s statements:
1. I was probably the only kid in the world who ____
2. ____ is my favorite juice
3. I never thought I would____until I___
4. I have always wanted to_____ but_____ My answers:
1. I was probably the only kid in the world who got bitten on the cheek by her little sister.
2. Valencia orange juice is my favorite juice.
3. I never thought I would be a blogger until I met Hilary (and also by suggestion from hubby.)
4. I have always wanted to live in France for while but ended up coming to the US instead.
I’ve told you about the pleasure side of my weekend trip… all that good food, great company and lots of laughter. If you haven’t read it, go here. I’ll wait. All done? Okay. Then let’s move on to the real reason hubby and I got a weekend off from the kids.
Here I am, enjoying the view from our hotel room balcony, ready to get the day started.
I was very happy that my friend Nicolette who I met prior to the conference was going to be there and we stuck pretty close together all day and attended most of the same sessions. I found her sitting way up in the nose bleed section of the Cinedome where the opening keynote was held.
See that little guy down there? That’s Lou Mongello, he’s host of the WDW Radio Show and he gave the opening keynote. Katy Widrick who was on the planning committee for the conference introduced him and was as surprised as the rest of us when a flash mob broke out. What a way to start the day! I jotted down a lot of notes during Lou’s speech. There were two things that really resonated with me:
1) Treat your fans as friends!!!
2) BElieve in YOURself!
But there was so much more and I’m still digesting it all…
Hubby and I (and Nicolette) went to most of the same sessions. After the opening keynote we went to Callie Cowan’s session on how to built your media kit. (Sorry no pictures.) Something I’ll be working on this week and have been meaning to add to the blog. It was really helpful and pointed me in the right direction. Thanks, Callie!
After Callie’s session, we were able to stay in the same room to find out how to fit blogging into your life. The session was held by Jackie of Momjovi, Michelle of Crazy Running Legs and Christine of Cook The Story… all busy working moms. I wanted to see the session for two reasons, one, I had started reading Jackie’s blog before the conference and had made contact with her on Twitter. She seemed so sweet and friendly that I wanted to see for myself and also to say Hello (which I did) and the other reason was to see if I could find some time management tools to help me. One of the things that sticks in my mind was something Christine said… she recommends to work in batches, i.e. take a day during the month and cook up a storm! Something I’m definitely planning on doing.
For the next session we had to go to a different room and hubby and I ended up going to two different sessions. Nicolette and I ended up going to a session about SEO by Tom Jelneck… Let’s just say it’s still just as over my head as it was before I went into the session. I took notes, so I’m hoping after going over them I might have some clarity. If not, I’ll pester hubby about it! 🙂
After lunch which was served by Bahama Breeze and delicious we all went to a session on analytics by Mark Krupinski. Another one I would have happily skipped. I wish I had sent hubby alone and gone to the Twitter session instead. It wasn’t that it was useless information, far from it. But this is so hubby’s domain and not something I profess to understanding. Sorry, Mark. 🙂
The next session more than made up for it. Working with brands was presented by the lovely Julie Deily of The Little Kitchen. I found the session very informative and can’t wait to put some of her advice to use. Thanks, Julie.
By the time Julie’s session was over it was close to 4 pm and I was getting pretty overwhelmed with all the information I was trying to soak up. Can you say information overload? I’m glad I took lots of notes to go over at my own leisure.
Here is hubby getting a massage in the Recharge Room while Nicolette and I chatted about some of the things we had learned that day.
We ended up ducking out after this since we still had plans with my friend that lives in Orlando. Remember that good food and wine I mentioned in my previous post? Yeah, that… 🙂
All in all, it was a wonderful experience. I’m so glad I went and had hubby at my side. I’m already looking forward to next year.
I have to say that I got more out of this conference than another one I attended prior. It was more organized, the sessions were more informative and the vibe as a whole was more positive and friendly.
Thank you to Bess Auer and the whole team behind CFLBlogCon as well as all the other bloggers there for making this a great experience.
If you would like to see more photos from the conference go here. Macbeth Photography of Orlando did a great job capturing the day!
This is my first time at this particular party. But then again this being my first year blogging there are a lot of firsts. I’m excited to join in the fun at 5 Minutes for Mom and meet new bloggers. 🙂
As my About Me page says I’m a stay at home mom of three wonderful kids. I have a boy and two girls and they keep me on my toes.
I’m also wife to a great guy who can whip up an interesting dinner in no time. I’m so glad he likes to cook even though the clean up usually takes forever! 🙂
This is us at my citizenship oath ceremony in January of this year. Yes, I’m a naturalized citizen. I was born in Germany and came to the US with my family when I was 16. I’ve embraced life in this wonderful country and particularly love living in Florida. I’m one of the people that absolutely adores living in this sunny state.
I love just sitting at the beach watching the waves. And keeping an eagle eye on my water babies.
I love blogging and connecting with all the awesome bloggers out there. It’s amazing how much my life has been enriched since I started blogging 6 months ago. I’ve been fortunate to meet two great bloggy friends in person. When I started out I was lucky enough to know one blogger who showed me the ropes and introduced me into this vast blogosphere… thanks Hilary of Feeling Beachie.
I want to expand my horizons by doing product reviews, learning all about HTML and CSS so I can really dive into the code and fiddle with things. I actually enjoy that aspect of blogging. Building a website from scratch would have taunted me 6 months ago, now I get giddy at the thought of it.
I would love it if you connected with me…either by subscribing by e-mail in the side bar or…
It’s Fridayyyyyy. Time to join Hilary at Feeling Beachie for some fill in fun. Each week she posts 4 statements with blanks for us to fill in on our own blog. She is always looking for new statements and if you have some e-mail them to her. You could become her co-host for the hop!!!! 🙂
This week’s statements are:
1. Given the choice to do ___ for ____ I would pick ___
2. When I watch ________ it always makes me want to _____________.
3. When I have people over I always make _________, it always knocks ‘em dead!
4. I always feel like I accomplished something when I __________.
Here are my answers:
1. Given the choice to do anything for a day I would pick reading a good book and writing posts for my blog without any interruptions!!!
2. When I watch soccer (FIFA Cup) it always makes me want to scream. (I scare my children every 4 years when I watch the FIFA Cup.)
3. When I have people over I always makeSusi’s chicken salad, it always knocks ’em dead! (Check under the recipe tab for the recipe!)
4. I always feel like I accomplished something when I manage to put ALL the laundry away and the laundry hamper is empty.
Welcome to my blog. Oh boy, just writing this makes my hands get sweaty and the butterflies in my tummy go into overdrive.
I’m a complete novice when it comes to blogging and the thought of me doing this seems very daunting. I figure, since I love, love to talk and tell stories about anything and everything( just ask my mom, I never shut up)…this would be a good outlet.
I started working on this blog after reading a bunch of books(for dummies, anyone?) about blogging and how to set one up. Thank heaven, for my techie husband without him I would have had the odd minor and, in one instance, major meltdown. Thanks to him, disaster was averted and after playing around with the design (which was lots of fun – thank you, WordPress) I started writing my first post.
It was just a first try to make the site look less empty. That post – Pumpkin Spice…and everything nice- was not so hard to write. The ones that followed ( and is going to be posted starting Monday) took a little more time and thought. And as much as I’m freaking out (inside my head) right now, I’m also very excited to share my story,my life and my thoughts.
Some of my posts will be about my upbringing in Germany, some about my life here in America, and some about my kids and family. A bit of everything…anything that catches my fancy, pretty much.
I hope, that you will find something that catches your interest and if not, thanks for stopping by and checking it out!!! I appreciate it.
