Picture Perfect Sundays #18

August 25, 2012

I love to share photos and I love Instagram. I was one happy little blogger when Instagram became available on Android devices. I jumped, no leaped, on that particular social media bandwagon and have developed a new love affair/addiction with it. Because of this love affair I have decided to start my very own Sunday link up called… Picture Perfect Sundays!!!
I would love it if you would join me and share the treasures you captured with Instagram/phone camera/any other camera during the past week. I see a lot of fantastic, cute, funny and happy moments every day.

Share just one or many of your pictures and add a small description.

Just paste the badge into your post or sidebar and follow me… quick and simple. You can find me on Facebook, Twitter and of course, Instagram!

This week I didn’t take too many pictures but still have a few to share.

Today I spent most of the day prepping for the arrival of Tropical Storm Isaac.

Hubby and I cleaned the pool area and put everything inside. The pool deck is mostly empty and the garage filled to the hilt.

I went to the store and battled the crowds to get some non-perishable food and extra water in case we lose power.

I also did more laundry than I ever thought possible in a day… I managed to do 5 loads and everything is already folded and put away.

I may have gone overboard but even if we don’t lose power and it turns out not to be a big deal I’ll have a day to relax and only a small pile of laundry for a change!!! 🙂

The kids school will be closed on Monday — it would have been their first day of school — guess it’ll be on Tuesday now.

Okay then, here are a few of my Instagram shots from the last week.

Middle and the boy waiting out a rain storm by his locker during open house on Friday.

I couldn’t believe how happy they were to see their friends and go back to school.

Makes me happy! 🙂

Middle giving me a pedicure by the pool . A beautiful day with lots of sun…

The boy’s first golf practice. He had a good time and did well.

His thumbs not so much, he walked away with two huge blisters.

Didn’t stop him from going again two days later.

So proud.

Little One on her sister’s laptop.

Concentrating so hard.

She amazes me by how much she already knows.

Homemade chicken soup for my poor hubby who was laid up on the couch most of the week.

He”s doing much better…

Sisters getting along and hanging out with Joey watching over them.

He’s my neighbor’s dog and such a sweetheart.

The girls love him.

Now it’s your turn. Hope you all had a wonderful week. Can’t see your pics!!!

It’s late and I’m tired. Little One came in three times during last night which is unusual for her. I sure felt it today and I’m ready to hit the sheets.

But not before I share my Instagram shots from the past week!!!

Here they are:

From top clockwise:

1) Evening sky after one of our daily thunderstorms as seen on our walk. Never get tired of it.

2) Kids being silly for photoadayaugust on Instagram.

3) Middle with her brothers aviators looking cool.

4) Finn our attack kitty trying to get me.

5) We had a visitor in our pool one morning this week. It was a harmless Southern Ringneck snake (yes, I researched it right away) and hubby saved it from a drowning death and put it out back. I still haven’t been back in the pool… because of the thunderstorms, not the snake!!! 🙂

6) Gracie our Yorkie making herself comfortable on Little One’s new beanbag chair.

7) I made chocolate chip cookies at 9 pm last night because my boy had a chocolate graving… and maybe I did too.

8) Little One enjoying her new bean bag chair.

9) Little One at dinner tonight enjoying daddy’s dinner more than her own. That’s a pork shank… or as we would call it in Germany, Schweinehaxe… Every once in a while it’s nice to go to a restaurant and eat German food and not cook it at home.

10) My girls looking pretty on the way to dinner.

11) All three of my offspring on our evening walk with the pooches. It doesn’t happen too often so I had to take a picture to commemorate the occasion.

Let's play tag…

February 2, 2012

I was tagged, not once but twice. The first time by my lovely friend Hilary over at Feeling Beachie and then again a few days later by the sweet Sarah at The Mama Pirate. I decided to give them both their due and write up two posts, since the rules are a little different for each tag meme. Sarah’s will be up in a few days.

Hilary wrote hers from both her and her handsome cat Alex’s perspective. I don’t want to offend any of my critters by choosing one over the others so mine will be solely from my perspective.

1. Describe yourself in 7 words:

helpful, kind, Twilight obsessed, clumsy, lovely (according to the hubby), talkative

2. What keeps you up at night?

Worrying about the kids. And the cat playing at one in the morning!!!! 🙂

3. Who would I like to be?

That’s a tough one. I’m pretty happy with who and what I am. I’ve been incredibly lucky in my life.

4. What am I wearing now?

Cargo pants, white shirt and the ever-present flip-flops.

5. What scares me?

Something happening to my kids or hubby.

6. The best and worst of blogging:

The best: Setting up the blog, learning new things (html and css) and the blogging community. Such great peeps.

The worst: Losing a whole post after working on it for an hour (Yes, I am talking about this one.) The time it involves and not being able to comment and read blogs I am interested in.

7. The last website I visited:

FeelingBeachie.com so I can finish this post. So sorry it took so long.

8. What is the one thing I would change about myself

I wish I was less of a neat freak and would worry less about what other think.

9. Slankets yes or no?

Snuggies!!!!!! 🙂

10. Tell us something about the person who tagged you:

Hilary is a real life friend of mine who I have known some time. She played a huge part in getting this blog of the ground and her help was invaluable. She’s always bubbly and smiley and a good listener, at least when I’m around and talk her ear off! 🙂

Now it’s my turn to tag some people. It doesn’t specify how many so I’ll stick to 5 since I still have another post to do.

Nicole @ By Word of Mouth Musings

Nicolette @ Working on a Project

Carley @ Tried, Tested and True Mommy

Karen @ Life with Karen

Melissa @ A Wide Line

Come play along… Why should I have all the fun and do all the work!!!! 🙂

Always In Threes

January 21, 2012

Ever since I discovered that my trusty point and shoot camera has a lot more settings than I ever thought, I’ve been busy taking pictures. Everywhere I go, I see a potential shot. And when I can’t stop or don’t have the camera with me I get a little mad. But that’s not what’s on my mind now.

The other day, my girls and I were out walking the dogs, enjoying another beautiful Florida Winter afternoon. The picture on top is one of the shots, I took. Three palm trees. And now, everywhere I turn there seems to be a grouping of three palm trees, sometimes more, sometimes less, but mostly three! There are a lot of palm trees in South Florida, as you can imagine. It’s the nature of the beast!!! 🙂

Anyways, it made me wonder if there is a reason for it or if the landscapers that designed the plots in all the different developments just liked the look of it. I do. I like the way three palm trees look together… either in a straight line, or in a triangle. It really doesn’t matter. Is that strange? Probably. But oh well, sometimes I get a little quirky.

Do you ever ponder about inane things? And what are they? I’d really like to know. 🙂

Happy weekend to all!!!

Christmas Around The World

December 12, 2011

I’m so excited that RoryBore from Time out for mom is including me in her Tuesday Coffee chat. I’m a guest blogger — who would have thought? Pretty cool, if I do say so myself. Thanks, RoryBore!!!!

The theme is Christmas around the world and I thought, I’d write a little about what Christmas is like in our house. We actually don’t just celebrate Christmas, we also do Hanukkah, not the whole 8 days, because that would be over-kill. We usually pick a night, have a somewhat traditional Hanukkah dinner and the children each get a gift from great-grandma. We do light the menorah every night.  Hubby’s grandma is Jewish and we celebrate most of the Jewish holidays through-out the year in some shape or another. We are not really religious in any way but it’s important to me that the kiddies learn about all the family’s tradition because it is part of their heritage.

Another part of their heritage is celebrating Christmas the way I did growing up in Germany. Christmas Eve is really the big night. Each year my mom comes to our house for Christmas Eve. We cook a traditional  German Christmas dinner which consists of a roasted goose with stuffing, potato dumplings, red cabbage and gravy. But it’s not necessarily always a goose. In past years we’ve also had turducken… which may be on the menu this year!!!  The kids usually can barely get a bite down because they are so excited to see the presents under the tree. There’s always a lot of popping around on the chairs and excited chatter going on.  We used to tell them that German Santa dropped off the presents at Omi’s house and she had to bring them over. The minute one of us gets up from the table to start clearing, the kids are out of their chairs and start dancing around the tree. Meanwhile, the grown-ups will only straighten up enough so the pooches don’t get any ideas and then we put the kids out of their misery.

I still think it’s magical to have the tree’s lights sparkle in the dark and hear the Christmas music softly playing in the background. It’s like a mood setter and makes the whole experience so much cozier.  After the kids ripped through all the presents at record speed, it’s time to build whatever needs building. The kids get to play with their new toys for a little while and then it’s clean-up and putting out the plate of cookies and glass of milk for the American Santa. He’s still stopping by after all. One thing I also do every Christmas without fail is give each of my angels Christmas pajamas… that way they are ready to go in the morning!!!! 🙂

Cue to Christmas morning. Lo and behold, Santa stopped by. Because the kids also get to experience daddy’s traditions. So, as soon as we grown-ups are set up with a hot steaming cup of coffee we get to watch the kids tear through the next pile. Afterwards it’s time for a big breakfast and more clean-up. The wrapping paper is always strewn through the house like confetti. Again, the kids get to enjoy their new acquisitions and then it’s time to get gussied up for brunch at Great-grandma’s club with hubby’s side of the family. After brunch we go to hubby’s dad’s house for the last part. There, we have desert and oh and ah over all the pretty decorations my mother-in-law put out. The kids get to go crazy one last time.

I know, it sounds like a lot and yes, on Christmas, they do get a little extra and some of those special things we won’t buy through-out the year. But we all stay with-in a budget. I’m firm believer in a budget. Just because it’s Christmas doesn’t mean it’s time to go crazy. The bills still have to get paid after all. We’ve had friends who spent more on their only child then I do for all three and then they couldn’t pay their bills. It’s just that we try to give them a bit of the experiences we’ve had as children. And I so love Christmas Eve. All the other stuff is just icing on the cake.

This is what Christmas has looked like for pretty much the last 10 years, ever since our son was born. We mix and match our different tradition and make it work out so that every one gets a little slice. I know the kids are all about the presents but I hope, that as they get older they realize that being together as a family and doing all those little things together will be important to them, too.

Wishing all of you a happy holiday season, no matter what you celebrate!!!

Merry Christmas. Happy Hanukkah. Frohe Weihnachten. Feliz Navidad. Feliz Natal.

As RoryBore puts it…Grab a coffee and share your thoughts on this weeks topics!!!

Happy Sunday…

December 4, 2011

Happy Sunday everyone…

I’ve done it… I finally put up my photo page!!! I worked on it for quite some time and wanted to tear out my hair more than once. Between trying to figure out what would work best for my needs and the many interruptions by my brood I was close to throwing in the towel more than once.

So glad I ignored that part of me and kept at it. I love taking and showing off pictures… of anything and everything. My kiddos and our “zoo” usually make the best subjects. Also, I live in beautiful Florida and just love what our surroundings have to offer.

Here’s to hoping you will enjoy getting a look at my life in pictures. 🙂 Let me know what you think!!! ( click here to see it! )

Wishing all of you a very happy 2. Advent!!!

Take care,

Susi
