How To: {frothy milk without a frother}

January 10, 2013

Do you like lattes?

I love a good latte, especially Chai Latte. It’s one of my favorite indulgences right now.

I usually brew my Chai tea, add some sweetener (usually Splenda) and pour a little milk.

But, I really, really love that foamy milk in a good coffee shop latte. But then, who doesn’t?

A while back I found a way to replicate that at home without the use of a frother or steamer attachment found on espresso machines. (I wish, I could remember where I saw it so I could link back properly and give credit where credit is due.)

And guess what? I’m going to share it with you because I love to share the love!

1) Brew your Chai tea like you normally would. I like to let mine steep for a good while to get it nice and strong.

2) While the tea is steeping, take an empty, clean jar of jam or jelly (or a big baby food jar) and fill a little less than half full with milk.

3) Close the jar tight and shake vigorously for about a minute. Then take of the lid and place the jar in the microwave. Heat for about 30 to 40 seconds. (Keep an eye on it as the foam will rise and might overflow if you heat it for too long.)

4) Remove the jar from the microwave. Be careful as it may be a little hot. Then pour the milk over your Chai tea. You may need to use a spoon to get all the foam out.

5) I like to sprinkle a little cinnamon on top of the foam and than savor the foamy goodness of my Chai latte. (I didn’t think of the cinnamon until after I took my pictures.)

Et viola!!! There you have it. A nice, frothy milk latte without the need of a frother or expensive espresso machine!

Enjoy!!!
