100 Weeks Of Fill Ins – WOW!

February 21, 2013

Folks, this is Hilary’s 100th Follow Friday Four Fill in Fun link up! Can we get a “Yay!” I started doing this hop very soon after I started blogging and because of it, I have “met” many of you… So I’m very grateful to be a part of this great community!!! Congrats, Hilary! 🙂

Each week, Hilary plans on listing four statements with a blank for us to fill in on our own blogs. If you want to join the fun and come up with four fill in’s of your own, please email them to her at Hilary(at)feelingbeachie(dot)com. If she uses them, she will add you as co-host to the hop! This week’s co-host is Beth Ann from It’s Just Life – she came up with the last two statements! Also Beth Ann as been her for almost all of the 100 fill-ins!

Hilary would LOVE it if you could please help her spread the word about this hop…. So, please tweet, FaceBook share, and add the linky to your post…

This week’s statements:
1. I can’t believe____
2. I never liked the TV Show _____
3. If I were a ____________I would most definitely __________.
4. I ____________ when I ______________

My answers:

1. I can’t believe I have to wait another week for the Breaking Dawn Pt. 2 DVD to come out. I thought, the release date was February 16th for some reason.

2. I never liked the TV Show (insert most reality TV shows), one of the worst offenders in my book “Toddlers and Tiaras”. I cannot believe how some of these moms behave and what they make their children do. I’ve never been able to stomach more than five minutes. Ack…

3. If I were a professional photographer I would most definitely love to do senior (High School) photo shoots out and about at interesting locations.

4. I cannot type very well when I have a cut on one of my finger tips. Yes, I am experiencing this right now – I sliced my pinky on aluminum foil preparing breakfast this morning and it’s a bleeder which equals lots of band aids and throbbing in said finger. Ouch!!!

No early birds here {Tuesday Coffee Chat}

February 12, 2013

sunset

I always check the prompts for Leslie’s Tuesday Coffee Chat on her blog Time Out For Mom and tell myself I’m going to link up and hang out for some coffee. But I’ve been a bad bloggy friend and no linking up has occurred in a long time.

Today, I want to change that. How can I not with a prompt like “Early Bird or Night Owl” ?

I am definitely a night owl. My family can vouch for that. I like to stay up late and sleep in the next morning. It’s always a struggle for me to get out of bed at 6:30 in the morning and I have to make myself go to bed at 11 pm the latest on a school night. On the weekends or during school breaks I stay up way later than that. Luckily, my kids are and always have been good sleepers which means mommy gets to enjoy snuggling in bed later than sunrise!

As far as I know, I have always been a good sleeper… my mom has told me stories of when I was little. She would get up early in the morning to get ready for work, give me a bottle, change me and then put me in bed with my grandparents and I would end up sleeping a couple more hours. My grandparents were shift workers so they came home late at night/early morning a lot and had crazy sleeping schedules. If they needed a few extra hours of sleep, I was apparently nice enough to give it to them.

As a teenager my friends and I would stay out until 3 or 4 in the morning dancing the night away at our favorite techno club called “The Underground” and then sleep as long as we could the next day. Those were the days.

Now, dancing the night away has been replaced by blogging, editing photos, reading and watching TV… really, enjoying a few hours of quiet time after the kids have gone to bed. But regardless of what it is I do. I still prefer to do it late at night and then sleep late the next morning.

I get used to the early school schedule and do it without too much muss and fuss but come the summer break, my schedule gets turned around and my nights get longer. I should mentioned that sleeping in for me is anywhere around 9:30 AM not let’s say, noon. That ship sailed about 12 years ago when my son made me a mommy! 🙂

So yeah, I’m firmly in the night owl camp!!! I guess, that’s the reason why I always photograph sunsets and not sunrises. (But that’s on my photography bucket list.)

How about you? Are you an early bird or a night owl? Why don’t you join Leslie and let us know! Or leave a comment!

My favorite part of Christmas

December 28, 2012

It’s been a busy few days and not just because of the holidays. We were watching our neighbors’ pooch for a few days. He is such a good boy and the girls had a blast walking him. Why is it that they were fighting over who could walk him but they never volunteer to walk our dogs? Christmas involved cooking (hubby and my mom), going out with grandma and hubby’s aunt and cleaning lots of wrapping paper.

My favorite part of Christmas is Christmas Eve – always has been and I’d wager always will be. It’s the big night in Germany – Heiligabend – we usually never saw the tree before that night and the magic of seeing the tree for the first time combined with the excitement over getting presents – Bescherung – never got old.

Christmas Eve dinner

We continue this tradition with our own kids and Christmas Eve is always reserved for time with my mom and presents that the “German” Santa dropped off early at her house. This year we also had a traditional Christmas meal of roasted goose, with potato dumplings, red cabbage, stuffing and gravy.

waiting for presents

The kids barely eat anything because they are too excited to open presents. They know that as soon as dinner is done and the table is cleared; they’ll get to tear into the mountain of presents under the tree.

wrapping paper everywhere

As usual, my mom  Santa didn’t disappoint and there were a lot of squeals and happy faces. And for once I didn’t have to spend two hours building any of the toys!!! (The boy built his own.)

working on his new chair

And after all the presents are opened, the wrapping paper and kitchen cleaned up, it’s time for everyone to relax and put up their feet. And try out the new toys!!!

the king in his new game throne

And then, the tree is waiting for more presents from Santa… but not until all the kids are in bed and fast asleep. Well, at least the littlest one… The other two are my helper elves now!

all cleaned up

Picture Perfect Weekly #33 {A Rainbow}

December 16, 2012

I love to share photos and I love Instagram. I was one happy little blogger when Instagram became available on Android devices. I jumped, no leaped, on that particular social media bandwagon and have developed a new love affair/addiction with it. Because of this love affair I have decided to start my very own weekly link up called… Picture Perfect Weekly!!!
I would love it if you would join me and share the treasures you captured with Instagram/phone camera/any other camera during the past week. I see a lot of fantastic, cute, funny and happy moments every day.

Share just one or many of your pictures and add a small description.

Just paste the badge into your post or sidebar and follow me… quick and simple. You can find me on Facebook, Twitter and of course, Instagram!

I look forward to seeing your treasured moments!!!

Here are my truly treasured moments from the past week:

ppw collage #33

Where do I start? How do I start?

Like you, I am stunned. I am in disbelief. I can’t fathom this terrible tragedy.

26 souls gone too soon.

I have no words.

Can’t wrap my mind around it.

I’ve had a lump in my throat and tears pricking the backs of my eyes for days now.

I’ve been holding my children a little closer and kept the computer closed a little longer.

And yet, I know that whatever it is I’m feeling is nothing, NOTHING compared to what the families and friends of those killed are feeling.

I took the picture of the rainbow Friday morning after I returned home from walking the dogs. It would have been somewhere around 9:30 AM. It posted on Facebook at 9:42 AM. I love rainbows and to me they always mean something positive. Today, looking at the time, it makes me wonder!

Looking back at these snapshots of my week, knowing what happened on Friday, make me appreciate these little moments just a little more.

Hug your children a little closer and say “I Love you” a little more often!

Thanks for being here with me.

xoxo, Susi

Hubby to the rescue… and a few fill ins!

December 14, 2012

I’m late to the party again.

I had grand plans to join Hilary at FeelingBeachie this morning. Get the post out while enjoying my first quiet cup of coffee after dropping the kids off at school.

That was not to be.

Instead, I was not so quietly freaking out after my WP 3.5 update didn’t go so well and I couldn’t access my admin panel.

I had asked my brilliant tech hubby to do a back up of everything so that I could do the update without worrying about screwing something up or worse losing content.

Even though hubby kept warning me not to do it yet as there had been problems reported with the update, I decided to go ahead anyways.

Not. A. Good. Idea.

Good thing, my knight in shining armor came to the rescue and everything was fixed much faster than anticipated.

Thank you, thank you, thank you my darling!!! What would I do without you?

Now without further ado.

Time for the Follow Friday Four Fill In Fun #90!!!

This week’s co-host is Ali from the daughter-in-law diaries – she came up with the last two statements!

She would LOVE it if you could please help her spread the word about this hop…. So, please tweet, FaceBook share, and add the linky to your post…

This week’s statements:
1. I usually ___ but never ____
2. I was named ___because ___
3. I would never change _______about my body, but I would change _________
4. The last time I said “I Love You” was to _________

My answers:

1. I usually get up at 6:30 AM but never on the weekends!

2. I was named Susan because when my mom was pregnant with me, she was reading one of my grandma’s romance novels and the story had an American girl named Susan in it. (I guess, it was predestined that I would become an American citizen one day!) I had to call my mom just now to find out. Its strange that I never knew this story.

3. I would never change anything about my body, but I would change the way I treat my body and try harder to live a healthful life.

4. The last time I said “I love you” was to my son when I dropped him of at school this morning.

So, there you have it. And isn’t it just wonderful that I learned something new about myself today?

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.

P.S. My heart goes out to all of the families and victims of the horrendous school shooting that took place just hours ago in Connecticut. What is this world coming to? It’s one thing when nature decides to hand us a heavy blow, quite another when our fellow man strikes out against us. My mother’s heart is aching right now.

An unplanned three-day weekend… and some fill in fun!

October 25, 2012

Earlier today, I was out walking the dogs and as I was meandering along, letting them stop here and there to sniff in the grass, watching the water gently lap at the grassy shore, and the grey clouds drift in the sky — I realized how quiet and deserted it seemed.

An approaching hurricane does that. The birds were quiet and instead of chirping in the sunshine, they hid and found a safe spot somewhere, away from the wind and rain. The tennis courts were deserted and no matches were being played this morning. The streets were devoid of cars… It just seemed eerie. The scratchy call of the crows high up on the wires of the power lines made it even more so.

From the time I hear we are under a tropical storm watch and then warning, the waiting begins.

First, to find out if and when the schools close. Today, the call came at 9:30 am… an early pick up today, no school tomorrow. The kids are excited. Why not, an unexpected three day weekend for them?

Then, more waiting and watching. Where exactly is the storm going? Will it change it’s prospective path? How strong is it? How big is it? How far do the feeder bands extend from the center, the eye, of the storm?

I constantly check the forecast, keep abreast of the latest news and try to stay calm.

I am calm. On the outside. Inside. A different story.

I am not scared, maybe a bit worried. It’s more like being on hold. I always feel this way… like my life is on hold and won’t continue until after the storm passes and things return to normal. Whatever that is!!!

This week’s statements:
1. ___ is my favorite feature
2. Thinking about ___ makes me ___
3. It’s been a long time since______
4. I just don’t understand_____________

My answers:

1. My eyes are my favorite feature.

2. Thinking about Thanksgiving makes me very excited. My sister and her family will be here and I can’t wait to enjoy the holiday with her and the rest of the gang.

3. It’s been a long time since I had a spa pedicure. I believe it was around the time I was pregnant with my youngest and that was over 4 years ago!!!

4. I just don’t understand why there is always such a long wait at the doctor even when you have an appointment. What’s the point?
