My Boy…

August 14, 2012

“Son, you outgrew my lap, but never my heart.” ~Unknown

It’s been a week of many new things,

more grown-up things.

The first locker at school,

learning how to open that lock.

A pierced ear,

because that seemed to be the thing to do.

Meetings for joining the golf team.

Trying on golf shoes,

in your mom’s shoe size.

A doctor’s check-up,

the news that you’ve grown three inches.

How did my baby, my first-born, my only son

grow into such a big boy?

Where does the time go?

Not a mischievous toddler anymore,

but a brainy middle schooler.

(Who got into some honors classes! Yes, this mommy is very proud. 🙂 )

No matter your size,

I’ll love you,

always!!!

Beach Lover

August 8, 2012

See that little one running?

That’s one of my beach babes…

the youngest.

I wish I could stop time,

maybe slow it down a bit.

Today, I went with the boy to buy his books.

He’s a middle schooler now.

Before we know it,

it’ll be early mornings,

drives to school

and afternoons spend doing homework.

I’m relishing these last few weeks of summer.

And I’m already counting the days until next year!!!

Patience…

July 24, 2012

I consider myself a fairly patient person.

I roll with the punches and don’t get too frustrated when things don’t go quite as planned.

I can wait without too much trouble for events in the future.

Except, right now my patience is being tested and I feel very impatient.

This shower/bathroom remodel seems to be taking a toll on me.

Maybe it’s because hubby and I have to share the kids bathroom… not a big deal at all, except that it’s not ours.

For me, the bathroom is a sanctuary.

I retreat there for an hour of quiet time at night, soaking in the tub to relax the day away.

That’s not happening right now because my bathtub is full of tools.

After the tile guys left today, I looked to see how far they progressed…

there’s tile and a border on the shower walls, not all the way up yet but it’s there.

There’s also, finally, some tile on the floor.

But it doesn’t seem enough.

Our bathroom isn’t that big…

Maybe, it bothers me that the guys come in the morning around 9,

leave for lunch by 11:30,

come back and finish for the day at 2-2:30.

I expected them to at least work til 5 every day.

That would give them another 3 hours to accomplish stuff.

I know, it’ll be so worth it in the end.

A new, repaired shower that’s not leaking into the laundry room.

And my sanctuary back.

Deep breath and on to another day!

A child's laughter {Quotable Bits}

July 12, 2012

Don’t you agree?

I know that when I have a bad day,

when I’m down,

when I’m upset,

when things don’t go the way I planned,

when I want to crawl into a hole…

The sound of my children’s laughter

will always put a smile on my face,

will make me happy,

is music to my ears,

will make me feel 100% better.

The sound of their laughter

is precious.

Red, White and Blue

July 2, 2012

Tomorrow (Wednesday) we celebrate Independence Day!

As we have for many years.

But this year, it will be special for me.

It’s my first 4th of July as an American citizen.

I think that’s pretty awesome.

I don’t think about it on a day to day basis.

But sometimes, especially on national holidays, it hits me.

I’m an American.

And proud of it.

A positive attitude

June 26, 2012

I’ve said it before and I’m sure I’ll say it many more times to come…

I like to have a positive outlook on life and always try to make the best of every situation.

This quote is just so true. And so, well, positive.

I love that last line… a spark that creates extraordinary results.

If all of us just look at life with a bit more positivity, I wonder how many more extraordinary things will happen!!!

So for today, be positive, smile and create a spark!!! 🙂

All Good Things

June 18, 2012

I love this proverb and it’s really something I try to strive for.

I try to see the positive in all things and people. ( Some would say that’s naive.)

I believe in the benefit of the doubt, in the glass half full and things happening for a reason.

I definitely believe we should love more and not hate. What’s the point in it? Hate is exhausting.

I’d much rather give and receive love.

And I believe a smile can cure many ills.

So, smile… 🙂

Knowing Yourself ~ A Quote

June 12, 2012

Isn’t this just so true?

Instead of always wanting more, sometimes I think, it’s good to stop and just look around you and appreciate what you have.

I know, I’m guilty of it… guilty of wanting more, wanting something bigger and better than what I have now.

It’s not always a bad thing.

But I try to stop and smell the roses so to speak.

Today, as I was swimming my laps in our sparkling pool, enjoying the quiet and letting my mind wander…

I stopped to appreciate my life and all I am and have.

Every once in a while it’s good to do that!

Summer Song

June 5, 2012

Continuing on from yesterdays post about my summer memories here now a quote about summer…

(An excerpt from the poem Summer Song by Alice Anne Gordon)

I love summer even living in Florida. We have summer weather pretty much all year long.

But the summer season is still special to me.

No set schedule.

No drop off or pick up times, except for camp.

More carefree living.

Pool time.

Evening bike rides.

Gorgonzola salad with steak.

A hot, sandy beach.

Waves coming ashore.

Seagulls screeching over-head.

A pelican in flight.

Loving, Hopeful, Optimistic

May 31, 2012

I couldn’t let the week go by without a quote.

And one of my quote creations.

I used one of my hibiscus photographs and edited it using picmonkey. If you haven’t tried it go there and check it out. Right now. I could spend hours playing around with it. So much fun!!!

Here it is, my quote and wisdom. Words to live by.
