Clouds, Rain and Tears

May 22, 2012

Quote by Christopher Morley

I had a completely different post and quote in mind. But couldn’t find the right words to express what I wanted to convey.

During my search I came across this quote and found it so appropriate . I’m sitting in my blogging corner, some lights on in the middle of the afternoon to chase away the gloom from the afternoon thunderstorm.

Living in Florida for any amount of time you get used to the afternoon thunderstoms that occur almost daily during rain season/ summer.

I snapped this picture on my phone earlier today. The clouds hung heavy and black in the air. It was humid and you could feel the pressure building. Release was imminent. It came around 3 pm this afternoon.

Now, still a slight drizzle, the sky is lightening up again and the air is much cleaner and just a little cool.

So these heavy clouds let a little water. (Actually a lot.) And for now it feels better.

Sometimes, when our hearts and minds feel heavy it’s good to have a good cry and let it all out. I’ve been know to have a good cry now and then. Just ask the hubby! Usually, I feel much better after. Lighter somehow.

Rainbows

November 21, 2011

This morning on the way to school my son points out the car window and says: “Look mom; a rainbow.” And sure enough, to the west there was a beautiful rainbow. We could almost see the whole arch going across the sky.

As I marveled at the beauty of it, my know-it-all ten-year old turns around and proceeds to tell me and middle daughter about the science behind the phenomenon. He explained, how drops of rainwater can refract and disperse light basically like a prism. If conditions are right, like they were this morning, then this refraction can cause a rainbow. (For more scientific explanation, click here.)

I just kind of stared at him, as I so often do when he has his “Professor K.” hat on — that’s what one of his teachers nicknamed him for knowing and retaining so many random facts!!!

I know there is a reason for why rainbows form but I honestly don’t care. I just love seeing them. They put a smile on my face and make me feel good inside. I always look at them as a positive sign and usually when I see one, I think to myself that today will be a good day.

Do you like rainbows or maybe one of nature’s other phenomenons?
