A little magic in a… tube {Magic BB Cream by L'Oreal}

March 4, 2013

I’m not a make-up or fashion blogger. I’m a busy mom of three kids who keep me on my toes. But I like to wear make-up and look pretty and put together (Who doesn’t, right?) without putting too much effort into my “look”. I keep my hair short because it suits me and is a wash and go type style. The same goes for make-up. I like to keep it effortless and natural.

When I had the chance to review the new Magic Skin Beautifier B.B. Cream by L’ORÉAL Paris through SheSpeaks, I thought, why not? It sounded pretty good to me to “get” 4 beautifying actions in 1, as the package claimed. The cream is said to Prime, Perfect, Hydrate and Correct for a bare skin finish.

L'Oreal magic bb creamI really liked the sound of that – a bare skin finish. Living in Florida leads to a lot of sweating, especially during the summer when I usually avoid wearing any type of face powder because I always feel like my pores get clogged up right away. I try to stick to a tinted moisturizer with an SPF of 15 or higher.

I choose the light tint, it also comes in fair, medium and dark to match all types of skin tones. I think, I could have gotten away with the fair as the light tended to look a little dark at first but I was able to blend it in pretty well.

Okay, so here comes the part where I bare it all – well, my face, without a smidgen of make-up on. I don’t think, you’ll ever get to see an up close and personal look at all my pores and imperfections like this again. It’s a little scary, huh? 🙂

And here I am with only the B.B. (Beautifying Beads) cream on after I blended it in. The cream comes out white/greyish with small, dark specks of pigment in it that blend together to smooth your skin’s texture and hide imperfections.

As you can see, a vast improvement. Don’t you think my skin looks much more even toned and smooth than in the before picture? You can still see a pimple or two, those, unfortunately won’t be completely covered up but with a little concealer they’ll vanish too.

And here I am with the complete look – magic cream, a touch of concealer, mascara and some lip gloss. My usual day time look. No more, no less.

Oh, and of course I don’t keep the towel on my hair all day, that gets a quick towel or blow dry, a quick puff of hairspray and off I go…

All in all, I have to say I’m pretty happy with the way the B.B. cream works and would definitely recommend it. It stays on all day and doesn’t leave my skin looking and feeling greasy. I did find it made my skin dry out a little the first few times I used it, so I started applying my usual moisturizer underneath and that seemed to do the trick.

And that leads me to one complaint I have – the BB cream that I received does not come with SPF which is the most important aspect for me living in Florida and having very fair skin. But I looked at their website and found an option with Spf 15.

Time to play and get a great deal… {Assassins Creed III}

December 11, 2012

Thank you to Ubisoft for sponsoring this post. Please visit to get your own copy of Assassin’s Creed 3, today’s Gold Box Deal of the Day! I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective. All opinions are my own.

Last year for Christmas the boy had his wish granted and Santa brought him an X-Box 360 with Kinect. Ever since then he can be found more often than not in his room playing one video game or another with his friends. It seems the new way to hang with friends is playing video games while talking simultaneously on Skype. Once in a blue moon he actually has a friend over and they sit in his room together whiling away the hours blowing things up!

I actually love to watch him play. His concentration is total and the myriad emotions crossing his face are quite fascinating. The language coming out of his mouth matches those emotions at times. Good thing, I’m usually not around to hear!!!

Ever since he heard that Assassins Creed III was coming out he’s been wanting the game. He already owns Assassins Creed II and has played it with his friends many times. I asked him to compile a list of why he wants the game in his Christmas stocking. Here are 10 reasons of why he wants the game –  in his words. (I only corrected for spelling errors!!!)

10 reasons why I want Assassins Creed III

1.I have seen there is a Frontier in the game now.

2.There are animals that  you can hunt and kill for money.

3.The combat system has been rebuilt.
4.Freestyle running has been rebuilt.
5.We are in a new time period with a new assassin.
6.I want to get Assassins Creed 3 because I have the second one and I want to see how Connor fights.
7. I like how the maps are historically accurate.
8. I love that he has the same name as me. My name is Conner too.
9.I like that you can chain together attacks.
10.I like how Connor is Native American / British and I want to see how that plays out.
Those sound like some pretty good reasons to own the game, don’t you think? Personally, just the fact that the main character has the same name as my boy would clinch the deal for me!!! 🙂
Do you, or someone you know , have a boy who wants this game in their stocking as well? Let me tell you where you can get a great deal.  If you go to today Assassins Creed III is their Gold Box Deal of the day and can be had for the awesome price of only $33. And if you know how much video games cost nowadays you know this is an amazing deal! So go, click on the link and make someone happy, including your wallet!!!
See, the boy agrees. Fist pumps all around!!! 🙂
Oh, and one more thing. If you tweet this today December 11th, 2012. You may have a chance to win one of 5 copy’s of the game from the Clever Girls Collective!

A farm in suburbia {Heritage Hen Farms}

September 20, 2012

“As for butter versus margarine I trust cows more than chemists.” ~ Joan Gussow

Makes you think, doesn’t it?

I certainly enjoy some real, raw butter a lot more than some margarine you buy at the store.

Imagine my surprise when hubby told me that there was a place close by where we would be able to get such raw butter. Made fresh. Hubby and the boy had a boys weekend a while back and went to a local restaurant that is self-sustainable. (More on that later.) There, they found out about Heritage Hen Farm. A local farm that sells fresh, raw milk, eggs that are only hours and not weeks old, homemade kefir and raw butter to name a few.

This fellow welcomed us with his loud moos. He’s kind of pretty.

We pulled in through the gate and parked right on the side of the dirt road. Heritage Hen Farm is a family farm in Boynton Beach, Florida. The hens are raised outdoors with the highest welfare standards. The farm is Animal Welfare Approved — check the site to learn more.

While we looked around and waited for the store to officially open this fellow made it known he was not happy to have his snack interrupted. It was funny to see the kids react to his mooing.

Svetlana, the lovely lady who welcomed us, told the kids they could feed the bull if they wanted too. The kids were a bit skittish so hubby took a turn and gave him some banana to munch on.

Middle got over herself and finally managed to get one banana into his mouth.

Seems he was happy with his snack if that lip smacking was any indication.

Waiting for more? I think so…

Here are my city slicker husband and kids with the up close and personal bull. Certainly a bit different than seeing them in pens at the county fair!

And here it is, Très Frèsh, the farm gate store. After we were done feeding the bull and I had snapped enough pictures, I laughingly made a joke about my family not being used to having cows and chickens roam free… but that I had grown up near such things in Germany. So, Svetlana and I got talking and turns out she speaks some German and her aunt who lives in Germany was coming to visit. (Yes, I’ll be back to say “Hello” and get some of that raw yogurt the aunt makes.) 🙂

We bought a gallon of raw milk, a jar of homemade kefir, a dozen egss, only hours old and all different colors. Little One liked the “blue” ones best. We also got a mozzarella cheese making kit but ended up drinking the milk instead of using it! My favorite was the jar of raw honey with a piece of honey comb in it. Little One thoroughly enjoyed the milk, much more so than the normal milk I usually buy.

The chickens were roaming free and clucking around. While we were there a few more people came by to pick up their provisions and you could tell that they had been coming for a while by the easy banter between the owners of the farm and the customers. I am so happy that hubby found this place and we will most certainly go back to get more yummy goodness soon.

For more information check out Heritage Hen Farm’s Facebook page. The about page is very informative and explains the way the farm is run much better than I could.

Do you have farms like this in your area? Leave a comment and let me know!

*Note: This is not a sponsored post. The cow and chickens may have told me to take pictures and write about them but I was not compensated in any way other than with some yummy food which hubby happily paid for!!! 🙂

Giveaway {icandy stroller}

July 16, 2012

The lovely Megan of MeganBlogs is hosting this fantastic giveaway. And I along with a few others are joining her.

My stroller time is pretty much over. I use mine only occasionally now when I go out walking with my neighbor and Little One tags along.

I remember, being pregnant, looking at and researching strollers and trying to find something that fit the budget and was functional. The first time was more than 12 years ago. The second time, my mom did most of the work and she was the one that gave us both strollers as baby shower gifts.

Had the icandy stroller been around then, I may have drooled over it but ultimately passed it over for something cheaper.

I love the color and sleek look. What do you think?

If you or someone you know is in need of a cool new stroller for that bundle of joy, go ahead, enter the giveaway for your chance to win one of these babies!

Megan, who blogs at Behavioral Child and Megan Blogs, was a guest of the CBS TV show The Talk when Dr. Gadget was on, and among other things, she was given the iCandy Cherry stroller, in the liquorice color. She is giving it away to one lucky, random winner.

This British-made stroller is very popular in Europe and is sold only in exclusive stores here in the US. Its retail value is $400.

{Disclaimer/Disclosure: I have not used this stroller so I can’t vouch for it. I have it in its original/new packaging and will ship it to the winner in the exact same condition. So essentially, I’m re-gifting it :) The Talk has no idea what I’m doing with it, nor would it probably care. By entering this giveaway, you agree to indemnify me, The Talk, and iCandy from any responsibilities of all issues arising from the receipt and use of this prize. Thanks for participating and good luck! – Megan Broutian}

A rainy afternoon tea party

May 28, 2012

What better way to spend a rainy afternoon then with a tea party?

Finally, a quiet afternoon spent with my neighbor, walking buddy and friend and her lovely daughter who is also the best sitter and dog walker around.

After the last couple of crazy weeks it was nice to take a load off and enjoy some delicious Davidson’s Tea and Donsuemor Madeleine cookies. Share a few hours of easy conversation and enjoy the children’s laughter.

I’ve always been a tea drinker and it’s nice to know that someone else shares that quiet enjoyment of a cup of tea. My dining room actually got some usage for a change… usually it’s reserved for homework or art projects. But today I took the time to set it up nicely, lay out our choices of Madeleine cookies (Traditional, Lemon Zest, Dipped Madeleines and Chocolate) and Davidson’s Tea (Vanilla Cream Spice, Tulsi Hibiscus Flower and Bing Cherry with Almond) and then wait for our company.

As we sat and laughed and sipped at our tea, the cookies made a fast disappearing act. I don’t think there was a clear favorite among the children… they liked them all. My boy of course especially enjoyed the chocolate Madeleines. But then he is a chocoholic!!! My friend and I truly enjoyed the Lemon Zest Madeleines. They were not too sweet and the lemon flavor is not over-powering. As a whole, I enjoy the Madeleine cookies… they are light and buttery and moist. Just delish.

We were even joined by my little princess who like the other girls enjoyed more than one cup of the Tulsi Hibiscus Flower tea with a touch of honey or sugar. It’s such a smooth and lightly flavored tea that’s perfect for kids who aren’t tea drinkers. My boy had several cups of the Vanilla Cream Spice tea. He added a liberal amount of honey and enjoyed it immensely. I liked the tea,as well. It has a stronger, more intense flavor than the other two and could be enjoyed after dinner. (In lieu of dessert.) I also liked the subtle almond (a favorite snack of mine) flavor of the Bing Cherry with almond. As it was steeping, I couldn’t stop smelling the tea… just like an almond cookie.

One more thing. A big plus in my book, all the teas were herbal and caffeine free.

*Note: The tea and cookies were provided to me by the Abbi Agency but the content and opinions expressed in this post are my own.
